Anyone have any experience with them? I am planning on trading in/selling my truck in the spring (might as well get one more season of house projects out of it) and I am trying to decide what to replace it with. I am currently checking prices on various TDI models and the prices look compatible.

Because I'm not going to be moving from the city for another 4-5 years, more than likely. I would buy an older 4x4 at that point.ernest_t_bass;1514235 wrote:Why would you get rid of the truck if you want to be a farmer?

I bought the top of the line TDI(think it is called the nav package) about 2 years ago. Great for road trips. I have the 6 speed so it's fun to drive around town too. So much torque in the low gears you can probably pull shrubs with it.
Have about 30k on it, zero problems so far.
It's a 2012 I had 4 dealers competing for my sale and ended up getting the fully loaded model for 3,000 less than the floor model I test drove. Gray with black pleather

Great little vehicles and they hold their resale too. The one I've got is a vehicle I "inherited" and use it primarily for just running around town. Getting about 34 mpg in town.

My brother's GF has one and I've ridden in it a few times. I know nothing about them other than it's nice inside and seems to ride well. She really loves it, though.
I know I was super helpful. You're welcome.

You should probably get a Hyundai Elantra like me.

The engines are bulletproof. If I were in the market for a car I may consider a TDI, but VWs are somewhat of a bitch to maintain.
My sister had an '04 Jetta and nothing but problems.

I can't even remember off the top of my head. Maybe electrical and/or sensor problems. All I remember is my dad being pissed as hell over the labor charges from a VW dealership. VW/Audi in general are known for being high cost to maintain, but that may not be the case now. This was years ago.
My friend has a brand new Tiguan...very nice ride. I also believe it comes in a diesel version.

Consumer Reports guy was bitching about the amount of maintenance is required on the transmissions since they operate different than normal ones. You might not run into that issue with a manual, though.

I get around 30 in town. On the highway going over 70mph Ill get around 47 mpg. Have driven to Atlanta and Beaufort, SC on one tank. I was looking at Hondas and Mazdas when I sold my truck and the Mazda dealership in Canton was also a VW dealer and they had a manual Jetta TDI on the floor, took it for a spin and looked at the MPG on the sticker...started doing research and a couple weeks later bought it there. I think it was 26/42. I've heard they get better with age(mpg wise) but mine has always been around 29/46

A good friend of mine is a car mechanic for BMW (had to go to college to get this degree, 2nd degree actually) and is a car nut. He owns a Subaru and loves it and swears by them.oberhaus;1514479 wrote:Subaru. All the main stream models get over 30mpg and they are AWD.........you can get it from me too.
