Not that I need another reason to root for an OSU victory on Jan. 1, but just knowing that a win over the Ducks would really ruffle Oregon-alum Dan Fouts' feathers is icing on the cake. Ever since that atrocious call by Fouts at the end of the BCS title game against Miami, I have personally wanted to bludgeon him with a sock full of quarters.

I tell people all the time that if Dan Fouts never screamed out "Bad Call" during the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, no one would have ever debated the penalty.

That's a good point, but I still feel like it would have been debated. It is amazing how announcers can shape the public's perception of a sporting event.

Fouts truly is a douche. The guy hates Ohio State, and you can tell everytime he used to call one of their games

Fab1b hit the nail on the head. Fouts desperately wanted Winslow to win the national title because of the relationship with his father. Because of that, he openly rooted for Miami the entire game and just about lost his mind on the pass interference call.

I have despised Dan Fouts ever since that night and I absolutely hate listening to him call a game. I want a win for the Buckeyes on Friday, but knowing that it will bother Fouts would only make it sweeter.

Bad call? Nope, sorry Dan. Penalty!!!

Also, it amazes me that the pass interference was as controversial as it was. Porter did hesitate, which is probably why the call was scrutinized so harshly, but Sharpe clearly held Gamble off the line of scrimmage and he made contact with him while the ball was in the air. Defensive holding or pass interference, it didn't make a difference. The Buckeyes would have had first and goal to go. After being ripped off in regulation on Gamble's catch that was called incomplete, I never would have gotten over it if Porter wouldn't have made that call.

There was no youtube, facebook, twitter or any sort of texting in 2002. The huddle wasn't even two years old yet.

Imagine the fallout if Fouts would have acted that way IN TODAYS MEDIA!!!

He wouldn't have a job at ABC, and it wasn't just the "BAD CALL" sound bit. He was wailing and moaning throughout the entire game. His bias made Keith Olbermann look good!

p.s.

In 2003 the National Association of College Officials voted "The Call" as the best call by an official of the year...

No one with a brain can honestly say it was a bad call. The reason it is so controversial is that it took so long for Porter to get the flag out of his pocket. Pretty stupid to dismiss the call because the flag came out late.

Never gave Fouts much thought until the "Bad Call" exclamation. Since then I can think of noone I'd rather drop a deuce on from a short distance from moreso than he, except for maybe Mak May.

Totally. His bias was obious, he wanted Miami to win for his former teammate's son Winslow. You gotta be more professional than that, you never see that out of Griese. So yes I agree, screw Fouts.

Fouts did everything short of breaking out pom-poms and singing Miami's fight song that night.

You never see a straight bias out of Griese but he never fails to bring up Brian's successes whenever he can when talking about QB play

I think a lot of people fail to realize this, people talk about the defensive penalty. But if you go watch that entire game, and see over 5 penalties alone in the second half that were not called on the Miami offensive lineman holding Will Smith and crew! That was the referee missing those! So don't give me that crap about the penalty at the end............

And Chris Gamble getting held coming out of a break. As a result, he couldn't get to Krenzel's pass that would have been a huge 1st down to put the game away. Instead, OSU had to punt it away and Perish's punt return gave Miami the field position to kick the FG and sent it to OT. Not to mention the clip on that play that allowed Perish to spring free.

Did anyone notice in espn's recap montage of college football plays of the decade they showed that pass interference penalty? Out of all the great plays in that game that's the play they decided to spotlight.

Honestly, I would have picked the Interception then the MoC strip.

Wasn't the player that MoC stripped the Washington player that was killed a couple years ago?

Indeed. That was Sean Taylor.
