Which, in itself is fine. Its the fact it won Academy Award for Best Picture that pisses people off. It isnt the worst movie ever made...but, because it is so highly acclaimed and won awards and all that, it becomes a hated movie for me lol

Beyond the fact that you might not like the movie. What about it being unbelievable would eliminate it from contention for the Best Picture category?

I wasn't aware that movies (even award winners) have to be completely believable. What is wrong with something just being a really good, entertaining story?

My cousin who was at OSU when the filming started went to the casting call for extras. He is the state patrolman who had Byron Hadley by the right arm, his left as you look at it. We watched with my family the other night, my kids get a kick out of it watching cousin jon be on tv! lol

The John Lennon scene is ridiculous. The whole conversation is forced (and the special effects have aged poorly). I actually have the Forrest Gump dvd. I don't think there will ever be a situation where we'd watch it again.

I am not a huge fan of Gump either. I probably like it better than you do, but no way was it best picture. The fact that it beat Pulp Fiction is a complete joke. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it, but I can't sit through it a second time. I agree that it generally doesn't hold up well. It is certainly not in the sams universe as Pulp Fiction. That remains Tarantino's best work in my opinion and a film that has aged very well - still fresh and original.

And to the thread topic - Shawshank is a great film and the Mansfield prison is a really neat place.

I showed Forrest Gump to my senior government students. Emphasis was placed on the many historical scenes with my commentary. Two scenes I would skip: Forrest's mom doing the guidance counselor and Forrest in Jenny's dorm. I told the kids they could watch that on their own. I think it's a great movie and deserving. Of course, it isn't real, and why would anyone have a problem with this? I have the DVD which I would show my students the special effects and extras. That is something that is very very interesting. For that time, the Digital Effects were pioneering.

Shawshank: Great movie. Classic.

I spent the night in the Mansfield Reformatory one night because my wife is into all that paranormal stuff. It was cool because they basically give you free reign of the place to go wherever you want. Pretty cool to see the different rooms from the movie in there.

We had wandered into one area and came upon the room where Brooks hung himself in the movie. And they also had the prop sewer that Andy crawled out of when he escaped. It was worth the trip.
