Not even a little. I'm not sure if that's a product of the straight razor or his technique, though. That said, I've never given myself razor burn from a safety razor and I'm 100% positive my form isn't great.gut;1487537 wrote:No razor burn, right?

I shave with a straight razor but it is alway better when some else does it.. clean, close and relaxing.
I once had a women give me a straight razor shave that should be on every man's bucket list...

Go with the pro. I get my hair cut about 5-6 times a year (I gel it up so much no one notices) and always pay for the full experience by not shaving a few days before heading in. It is expensive (but not so much on an annual basis) but pros know what they are doing and some of them are damn good. Worth the money. Other people touching me, particularly with sharp blades isn't a pleasant experience, but a great barber is worth the price, and free tea/coffee/beer helps out.justincredible;1487404 wrote:I just got back from my first barber shop shave. Awesome experience, ridiculously relaxing even though a stranger has a razor blade to your throat. If you've never done it I highly recommend it.

Have actually watched the process on YouTube a few times, def want to try it.
There is a famous barbership in downtown Indy called "Reds". I guess they're one of those old school places, I've been wanting to check it out.

But it's awesome, I love it if it's done by a guy who knows what he's doing.justincredible;1487404 wrote:I just got back from my first barber shop shave. I just got my hair cut today ($10.50 plus tip) and my barber always uses the straight razor on your neck and around your ears as part of your normal haircut. I think he charges $6 for a normal shave and $10 for your head if you are going for the Mr. Clean look.

$19 and that hair is growing back today. Not something I'd pay for. If you want to relax, jerk off in a warm bath. $19 cheaper.justincredible;1487411 wrote:It was $14 and I tipped him $5. It's not something I'll do often but I'll definitely add it to my haircuts a couple times a year.

Or you could soak a loaf of bread in warm milk and burry your boner 3 slices deep.SnotBubbles;1487990 wrote:$19 and that hair is growing back today. Not something I'd pay for. If you want to relax, jerk off in a warm bath. $19 cheaper.

My son had a "History of Downtown Hometown" type of field trip day. I offered to be a part of it. As we entered the barber shop and sat listening to the guy talk as he cut a man's hair, I was looking around the shop. I notice the reverse image clock. That was cool. The barber can read it as he looks into the mirror. (Why he needs to look in the mirror is beyond me. You keep cutting until the cut is done. But hey, whatevs.)
I also caught the pricing board that had a number of items on it. As I looked it over, I saw the straight razor shave and thought, "Hmmph. Never done that before. I guess I'll do it now while my son's class looks on."
All in all, not a horrible experience. Aside from the fact that he missed a few spots and the fact that I read the board wrong (thought it said $6... It said $20!), it was more positive than negative. And hay, the boy and his class got to see someone under the age of 75 in the chair!
After paying the $20 +$5, I thought to myself, "Who in their right mind is getting this done two or even three days a week!!?!?!?!?!" That's right... nobody.

I don't shave. Nor do I pay for haircuts.
I save money.
