I bought a Sharp Aquos Bluray player a year ago. The damn thing never worked to my satisfaction. Hung up all the time, took forever to load, and just seemed to be very temperamental. Too often it made my movie experience one of frustration.

Tonight, when it locked up it met its unnatural death (won't go into the specifics here as it was a pretty ugly murder scene).

So, I'm half tempted to NOT go back to a bluray as I just don't think the technology is all that great, YET. However, I was looking at something that would stream Netflix and Youtube (among other things) and am now considering the Sony BDPN460 and the LG BD390.

Anyone have experience with these products? Or maybe even a better one?

Load speeds, streaming ability, and ability to show all titles is preferred.

The technology is great if you spend your money wisely and get a worthy player.

With that said, you might as well just buy a PS3.

It's one of the top 5 highest rated blu-ray players and it gets the constant firmware updates from Sony. Simply put, it's Sony's baby..

You can use the browser to watch Youtube vids and Netflix will send you the disc that allows you to stream your netflix queue through your PS3 for free..

Sharp is not a good brand of blu ray players so don't judge the format based on your experience with this particular player.

If you are willing to spend ~$300 on an LG BD390 you should look into a PS3 as well. Of the two you listed I would probably go with the Sony over the LG.

Both replies above are spot on. Your player is the reason for your issues I've never had a problem with the PS3. Free streaming from netflix and a browser for YouTube. Only thing missing is hulu but Sony can't add that without permission.

I sold my blu ray and bought HD DVD.....it is only a matter of time before bluray is dead.

I have a stand alone sony bluray and PS3. Even both being sony and I upgraded the sony standalone to the newest FW, the ps3 loads blurays faster. Bluray does take longer to load but that's just the price of awesome video quality. I've never had either of my players freeze or skip yet....Buy a PS3 or better quality bluray and enjoy HI-DEF.

PS3 is the best blu ray player you can buy with all the on-board processing it does itself.

My DVD player doesn't have load times and it works and looks great.

I bought a Vizio 32" LCD and Blu Ray player for the the bedroom and love them....

My wife and I went shopping for a blu ray player the other day and came home with a PS3. Thank you Best Buy guy.

What do I need the disc for? On the PS3 there is an option to sign-up for netflix already.

Was that a serious post? HD DVD was defeated by Blu Ray in Feb. 2008.

You can signup for netflix but your not going to be able to stream any movies over your PS3 without the PS3 netflix disc.

Yeah, imex is right. You need the PS3 disc from Netflix to instantly stream your queue from the system itself.

Sometime soon though, the PS3 should be able to load up the Netflix software w/o the disc. It was an obvious rush job to get Netflix on the PS3 by both parties, but it works, so that's all that matters.

Sony is talking about having a paid subscription online model like Xbox Live that would include things like no disc Netflix streaming. They would make free users continue to use the disc.

People may get pissed if Sony starts to charge for some "premium features" but as long as it is similar to Xbox Live......I would gladly pay.

I just hope they don't demand $12 without any notice.

Yeah, people have been confused by the pay service Sony is talking about though.

Online gaming would STILL be FREE. There is no charge for playing games online by Sony.

However, the premium service you could pay for would include things like a 3 year extended warranty, 1 hour demo trials of new release PS3 games, unlimited play of PS1 games (and soon to be PS2 games I hear) Cloud storage, and several other features.. Which, imo, may be worth paying for.

But again, if you just want to continue playing online and are not worried about the other premium services, you could opt to not pay and still play online..

But, this idea is just being thrown out right now, I don't think it's a certainty yet.

I just want them to offer......

when a friend comes online, you can simply tap the start button and invite them into a game.

Maybe they offer it now.....any game that is offered on both systems, I buy on 360 because it was a pain in the ass before.
