Wrong. My doc told me the same thing Azu just said. This article gives a pretty good explanation.

It appears as though you are correct. I am mistaken.

I'd rep, but fuck you.

It's a common misconception. Another example of pharmaceuticals treating a single symptom and completely ignoring the cause of the problem.

It wouldn't shock me if that sphincter (heehee) in my stomach was messed up. Everyone on my mom's side of the family has issues and I do as well.

I can't function without a PPI.

That doesn't make any sense.

Don't make fun of my disability or I'll have to make a thread about it.

Today was my 1st fully heartburn free day. It was actually nice.

Though hearing that its not enough acid, really throws me for a loop! Considering what I ate before I had this problem.

I also found that I don't get indigestion or any acid re-flux of any time anymore using this. I'm sure this is just a "band-aid". But what pill isn't a band aid? Which is why I'm not a pill guy. Only ibuprofen, when I'm in pain. Now this.

It has made me feel better, especially in the mornings....I was sick of waking up with symptoms of a heart attack! It's nice to know that this is helping!

Like I said before, it's not a band-aid. It's a therapy drug. If an altered diet doesn't help your heartburn, your best bet is a PPI (Prilosec, Nexium, etc)

Seems you already have a thread ... I can't function without a PPI

I do both of these in far too copious amounts and can also say I've never had it.

An altered diet WILL fix almost every time. Even if it is a hardware problem, if you eliminate the antagonist, it will be gone.

However, for someone who has it as severe as you, that might you need to literally go on a Ketogenic diet consisting of only bone broths/stocks, certain probiotic foods, egg yolks and filtered water. It can take some people on this protocol 6-12 months of NOTHING ELSE to fix it. Other fats and oils (tallow and ghee from high-quality sources and olive oil) can also be beneficial.

Now, there's also a trade-off in how difficult this would be. With that said, like almost any other disease or illness known to man, there IS a CURE with diet and environment. It just depends how extreme and how much you want to invest in fixing it, and if someone has something very serious like cancer, I don't blame them for doing the status quo, trusting a doctor w/Chemo and basically signing a compromise of death.

I think I'll trust my doctor. That way I don't end up like my great-grandfather who died from a ruptured ulcer that resulted in him internally bleeding to death.
