OK.
Possibly. But I know I can protect me and my family.

And like it's been said, CCW holders are some of the most responsible gun owners I know.
I really do understand your point. Hopefully judgement and awareness of your surroundings could prevent you from being in this type of situation.
I've never been in a situation yet in my life where I felt so much in danger that I needed to shoot somebody.

Neither have I, but I am prepared if and when it happens.

I love Chicago (big city) with all exciting thing Chicago offers. I know the areas where not to go and the time most dangerous on the subways but that still doesn't account for the potential random danger.

In all my travel to Chicago I’ve had two situations where the potential for aggressive conflict could have happen but was diverted. One situation in the Lakeview area which is a very safe area, until crimialome looking for victims. I had my knife open in my coat pocket, my other knife open in my back pocket prepared to be confronted with the potential of robbery and the fear for my wife safety. I was prepared to take no prisoners. It was diverted when a police cruiser rounded the corner and they took off running. Yes the three individual had just robbed some other couple a few blocks away. Another office question my wife and I, we gave them description. In this situation next time in Chicago both my wife and I will be packing. The odds just when up in favor of the good guys…

It only takes a few armed citizens to act to prevent crime and to make the criminal think about their action. Under estimation the victim could be costly to the criminal. Chicago has a well armed and effect police however out numbered, the criminals are greater in number and also armed. Now in Chicago every citizen is a potential random victim, with a conceal carry citizens no longer are they potential victims but judge, jury of your own security…

I have been in that situation and the worst thing I can imagine is feeling completely helpless. Which is where I was. Had I had my gun, I may not have even been able to pull it because of how it went down, but I would have been at least a little more comfortable knowing that it was available to me. Especially when you know the criminal has no idea you have it.

Belly, are we even sure you'll be able to carry in Chicago? A city law could prevent it within the city limits.

If it's anything like Ohio, a city ordinance can not trump a state law.

Doesn't NYC have different laws than NY? A federal law can't trump a state law either but we have raids in Colorado and California dispensaries all the time.

Only because I got lucky. It was a man in his 40's in Detroit, walked up to my truck as if he was going to wash my windows. I put the window down to tell him no thanks and immediately had a gun to my head. His first words were, "I don't want to hurt you, I just need to feed my family". I offered him my wallet, showed him I had no cash and told him to take the credit cards if he wanted. He declined and walked away.

To be able to carry in NYC, you have a lot more hoops to jump through, I know that.

Good question. Illinois as a state can have casinos. But cook country (where Chicago is located) cannot.

I was on a main street, and it was busy. No one seemed to even notice. Unfortunately at the time I was not carrying a weapon, but it's always attached to me now.

I'm curious....If someone has a gun pointed at you, much less to your head, are you really going to draw on them?

Our last time in Chicago, we stayed on Belmont, and walked back (at night) from the Cubs game to our hotel. Instead of taking Clark all the way, we took Sheffield. Not the brightest idea, considering I was drunk. Definitely smelled plenty of pot, and the road was very dark, compared to Clark. Dum. But we made it out alive.

Lol Sheffield isn't bad at all.

The way I see it, it's like traveling in the winter. Better bring a heavy coat, hat, gloves and boots. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. People get too emotional about firearms. It's not that much different than anything else. Your whole life is about preparing. School to prepare for work, work to prepare for a family/a living/a life, saving to prepare for a layoff/retirement/new house/etc., shopping to prepare dinner, packing to prepare for leaving, studying to prepare for a test. What is so insane about carrying to prepare to save your life from someone who has lost it?
