Not a huge fan. I probably go couple times a year.

Our track coach in college had a booklet which showed where all the buffets were on a map. The only buffets I will hit up is a breakfast buffet, pizza buffet, or a Chinese buffet.

4) Golden Corral/Ryans/Ponderosa and any others out there. I used to love them when I was in high school/college but now I think they are pretty terrible.

Don't know whether they exist back east, but out here we have Sweet Tomatoes/SoupPlantation that are awesome buffets. Great salad bar, a good selection of fresh homemade soups, plus some desert and Italian food options (a few pastas, some pizza bread).
I generally don't eat at buffets anymore but I'll make an exception for there.

My father-in-law LOVES Golden Corral. I think it's gross as shit.
Also, I came really close to shitting my pants after eating at a Chinese buffet...so I am not too keen on those either anymore.

While I haven't been to a buffet in probably a decade, I would totally eat at a Chinese or Pizza buffet if the mood struck.
That being said, Golden Corral is simply the grossest food establishment in these United States. I remember being repulsed by the obese customers fighting over scraps like pigs at a trough. If Golden Corral was my only option for my final meal on Earth, go ahead and kill my ass before dinner.

Never been to a GC except in the Carolinas in the Eighties and Nineties - they weren't buffets down there at the time. They weren't bad - better than Ponderosa, but a long way from, say, Ruth's Chris.
Chinese buffets scare the crap out of me - while some are very clean, quite a few have serious sanitation problems, particularly the small family-run places. There's a place called the Sunshine Wok here in Hilliard that was closed down for three days last year - the owner was using ice to cool down raw chicken, then dumped the ice into the soda fountain ice dispenser. This happened --during-- the inspection.
Some of these guys come from places without any real concept of sanitation.

The week-long casino buffets in Vegas seemed to be a pretty good deal while I was there. $40 and you got your choice of 10 places, unlimited visits.
