True of all religions, not to mention the ironically holier-than-thou atheist contingent.

Truth. Insanity is all over the place; whether or not religion is involved is somewhat incidental. Just another motive, likely, or something that can be used to pull someone fringe over the edge.

Nailed it.

It's just too easy for people to lump everyone in a single group while giving them a way validate their bigotry.

So to some of you then the religion itself is no issue? It's just a few crazies? I've been all over the Middle East. They are taught almost from birth the West and the Jews are the enemy. Sorry but I'm not religious but did grow up going to a Christian church and never once was killing the infidels taught, or killing for any reason! Now do others do crazy shit in the name of Jesus or whomever you worship...yes they do but I don't see them waging "war" in our current times. I know about the long history of religion waging wars but now Islam is at the forefront of it!

Had you grown up in Northern Ireland instead of Ohio, your experience in that regard may well have been a bit different.

The difference s that in the Islamic world, it isn't a "fringe" that we're talking about. Fringe implies a tiny number. In Islam, there are tens if not hundreds of millions who sympathize with the hundreds of thousands who carry out their sick agenda. You wouldn't call Lutherans a "fringe" of Christianity. When I turn on my TV and see Christians by the tens of thousands carrying out murder with millions more supporting them, I will then agree with those who say "all religions have their fanatical fringe". In the meantime, Islam remains frightening.

I how how many innocent people have died while we have been in the middle east. Why are we there again? Isnt Osama dead and there no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

I don't disagree with you on that point, but the two are mutually exclusive. US troops in Afghanistan are not the cause of Muslim terrorists all over the world. Muslim terrorists predate the United States' founding. They've been around since Mohommed founded their religion.

Add a French soldier stabbed yesterday to the list.

I think some (maybe a lot) of this can be chalked up to crazies motivated by an opportunity to have an impact thanks to modern media. And we're not just talking about terrorism in that regard.

If religion is to blame, why is there very little to no terrorism in/from regions that have the highest Muslim population. For example, South and Southeast Asia makes up `~63% of the Muslim population in the world. Not sure I've heard of a terrorist who has came from the area.

Their religion isnt the problem. What creates terrorists if the lifestyle they grow up in, which is a constant battleground. Westerners have had an unwanted military presence in the Middle East for how long now?

The impact on the world's economy due to the desired natural resources in the Midde East will keep westerners' presence there for a very long time.

I'd take my chances in Northern Ireland circa 1982 versus any Muslim goverened country anytime if that tells you anything.
