Isn't that what shelters are for though? I mean, Ernest could have found some sucker to take in the messed up dog but how long do you think that would have lasted? At least if he took it back to the shelter it would be in the care of people who are used to handling dogs that have issues and maybe they could get them corrected.

I should have looked for a cat person with a Hyundai. Perhaps they would have wanted the dog.

Perhaps. I wouldn't leave the dog outside, so I'd have a leg up on you.

also, I adopted my cat from a shelter and didn't take her back because I'm good with pets.

Hope this helps.

LOL. You wouldn't leave it outside because you don't own a house. I'd rather leave my dogs outside, in a fenced in back yard, with an insulated/nice sized dog house, where they can go out to the yard and piss and shit all they want... than leave it inside, in a cage all day long.

Hope this helps, too.

We also have 2 cats. One is fixed and declawed, and inside. The other is a stray, that is outside.

DGAF if this helps.

I have a big fenced in backyard, and my dogs can piss and shit all they want, and still live inside, without a cage.

Of course, they are house broken as well and know to let us know when they have to do that pissing or shitting thing you speak of.

It's easier to just give up your dog if it misbehaves. To hell with putting in effort.

She shit in the house once, and I was going to return her to the breeder we got her from. They said fuck you, we don't accept returns on dogs that shit in houses.

You really should not own a dog.

What you or your wife needs to do is take 2-3 days and take the dog out for regular walks and praise him when he goes to the bathroom outside. Monitor him when he is indoors and if it looks like he's going to pee try to get him outside. Crate training works to some degree, but dogs are pack animals and their only goal in life is to be around you 24/7 if they deem you to be the pack leader. Just be patient for a few days and the dog will figure it out.
Listen to this advice ^^^^ if you don't, you and your wife will be the ones who get "Trained".
