It wasnt a game but nd is very underwelming as far as stadium. To be honest going to see the rest of campus is cooler then the stadium. BUT like I said I went in the stadium on a non gameday, so makes a huge difference

I got to go to my first ND game this past year, and was really surprised by the atmosphere. I had been on campus there many times, but never on a game day. I think I was surprised by how quiet the atmosphere was on campus. Not in the sense that it wasn't loud, but in the sense that only students and people going to the game were there. I'm used to Columbus where 100,000 people without tickets are still on campus on game day. I thought the stadium experience was top notch though. I loved the fact that when you walked into the stadium it felt like you were stepping back in time. I felt as if the experience hadn't changed much over the years. In Ohio Stadium the history is still there, but it's hidden now. Nebraska, Penn State, LSU and Alabama would be up there as well.
I've been to Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Ohio State and a few other smaller ones. For their size, UT is overrated while OSU is pretty awesome. Helps when the games I've gone to have been great ones (UM '02, Texas '05, many others).

I wonder if that has to do with it being more difficult to get to South Bend and/or the fact there isnt nearly as much to do outside of the game? Columbus you can go, tailgate, and then enjoy the city. I think it's both. Columbus is a city of nearly a million people, whereas SB is only a few hundred thousand, so there are less people around to just be around. Also, OSU's campus is in downtown Columbus, so there are plenty o places to tailgate and hangout on game day outside o the stadium. Since Notre Dame Stadium is on campus and since the campus is pretty isolated with just a shopping center and a residential neighborhood surrounding it, there aren't many places to tailgate or other things to do once the game starts if you aren't in the stadium. I understand what laley is saying. But it's just not true to say the shoe isn't on campu. Heck the shoe isn't even close to being out by west campus. And it's nowhere near downtown. Being in downtown means in walking distance to arena district or brewery district. And unless you wanna hike,you're not doing either.
