The Mountain West has certainly been impressive so far with 3 wins in bowl games, 2 over the Pac 10 and 2 very winnable games left.
Do they claim the Bowl Challenge Cup?

this is pretty much the consensus among most people.
Utah has been impressive tonight and has pretty much shut down Cal for most of the night.

BYU dominated Oregon State, Utah is handled Cal, and Wyoming managed to pull a victory out over Fresno State. That is very impressive. Give this conference an annual match up with the Big East and I think they would seriously challenge them.
Air Force
Boise State
BYU
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawai'i
Houston
Nevada
UNLV
Utah
Texas Christian
Wyoming
That conference would deserve a bid.
Of course, I think the Pacific-10 should add Boise State and consider their twelfth team shortly thereafter.

so you propose taking a few WAC teams and making a 12 team MWC super league? Not too sure I see that happening but from the teams you added that could be one hell of a league....

Well with a second look I see it as this. Take the Mountain West as it stands (Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Texas Christian, UNLV, Utah, and Wyoming), and add Boise State, Nevada, and Fresno State.
East Division
Air Force
BYU
Colorado State
New Mexico
Texas Christian
Wyoming
West Division
Boise State
Fresno State
Nevada
San Diego State
UNLV
Utah
That conference is better than the Big East, and probably on par this season with what the Big Ten has been lately. It's probably on par with the Pac-10 in most years too.

the only problem with the MWC right now is that the bottom programs are horrible.

But you will not see the bottom programs rise until they get an automatic berth. It's just impossible to recruit well there. The top teams can say "Hey, we dominate the conference and enjoy being BCS busters every season." The bottom schools are on par with MAC, recruiting-wise. They would actually benefit the most if an automatic berth were given.
I feel the same way with teams joining larger conferences. If Boise State and Nevada were to jump to the Pacific-10, Nevada would be a solid program within a matter of years.

A few years ago, BYU was part of the WAC....It wouldn't be a bad idea for them to join forces...doubt it will happen though

No worse than Baylor, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Washington st etc. None are threats to win jack.OldDanTucker wrote: the only problem with the MWC right now is that the bottom programs are horrible.
The bottom dwellers in every conference are.....well..... bottom dwellers.
The BCS is only fooling morons and idiots now.(its a shame so many fall into that category.) The ones that desperately grasp at illogical moronic arguments to justify their idiotic beliefs and lack of any football knowledge.

I root for Boise, but I doubt the Pac-10 would offer them or somebody like BYU a spot. Mostly because any new team would be expected to pull their weight in other sports like basketball where Boise is a non-factor.elbuckeye28 wrote:Boise State to the Pac 10 just doesn't make very much sense.sjmvsfscs08 wrote:

I could see Utah getting an invite to the Pac-10 though. They have some history in basketball under Majerus

I can see this happening. Missouri to the Big 10, TCU to the Big 12 and the Pac 10 will add Utah and BYU. I have a feeling that there will be a playoff in 5 years and we will go back to an 11 game season. There will be 5 AQ to the dance with each of the 5 AQ coming from a championship game. Hey I can dream can't I?

The Big Ten is better than the SEC head-to-head come bowl time in the BCS era, so does that mean MWC > SEC as well?

Some thoughts.
1. Most of the MWC teams were in the Wac just a few years ago. The MWC was created to pull the best teams from the WAC.
2. The MWC over the past few years has dominated the PAC-10. There was a weekend in 2008 where the Pac-10 went 1-5 against the MWC. Wyomings only other bowl win this decade was also over a Pac-10 team, UCLA.
3. What about adding Colorado to that combined WAC-MWC conference people keep discussing?
4. Society, stop trolling.
5. MWC>Big 10? Sorry, doesn't make sense to me. And I graduated from the MWC. Please back up this argument.

I like this idea, but who would you recommend replace CU in the Big XII that would not already be a member of this WAC/MWC conglomerate? People are already saying that TCU would be the most likely addition to the Big XII in the event that Mizzou leaves for the Big 10, I would imagine that it would be the same should Colorado jump ship.redfalcon wrote: Some thoughts.

And sorry Cats, not only did your statement have nothing to do with the topic but it is also untrue. The MWC is 9-17 vs the Big Ten since they formed in 1999. 5 of the wins are against Northwestern and 2 are against Indiana. Albeit it's not a large basis of comparison but the Big 10 clearly has the upper hand.
I will concede that the gap is closing, and fast.

I would actually take one of these approaches:dtdtim wrote:

1-Houston
2-Arkansas State (by far the least likely)
3-My Favorite, although by far most unorthodox-Send Iowa to the Big 12. Nothing against them, I just think geographically it makes sense. This way the Big-12 has 12 and the Big 10 once again has 10.

I didn't realize the big 10 had a better record vs sec teams in the bcs bowl era. Lots of good ideas here. The mwc is flat out nails, they continue to get hosed by the bcs geezers.
And for the umteenth time I'll say it again college football needs a playoff!

Uggh if that is his opinion, fine, I am cool with it. I just hate that he doesn't give any justification at all. Also he is in favor of the Big 10 championship in football, but not a playoff? (<-- this wasn't in the article)
My favorite quote in the article though. After trashing the playoff the whole time and anointing the BCS, he gets asked about how he'd feel if Ohio State was left out of the championship and they went undefeated :
E. Gordon Gee wrote:"I know how Ohio State fans would respond to it; they would be outraged," Gee said. "And I know how I would respond; I'd be very unhappy.

These things have a habit of evening out. Last year, the PAC 10 rolled through everybody during bowl season....unbeaten. This year, Oreon State and Cal got curb stomped.
This bodes well for the underdog Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl.
I look for the Big 10 to make amends for their poor showing over the past few bowl seasons.
