The University of Notre Dame and the NBC Sports Group have renewed their historic football partnership for 10 years, through the 2025 season. The renewal extends the landmark partnership, which began in 1991, to 35 years.

Per the extension, which begins with the 2016 season, the NBC Sports Group retains global media rights on all platforms to a minimum of seven Notre Dame home football games per year, with the vast majority airing on NBC. It also allows for games to air on NBC Sports Network. As it has since 2009, NBC Sports Digital will continue to live stream Fighting Irish home games.

Solidifying the fact that they will never be in the B1G. I guess this is good for both NBC and Notre Dame.

Is signing them for 13 years because of the National Championship appearance? Is that like giving Charlie Weis a contract extension for a close loss to USC?

There is a pretty lengthy explanation by Rec, and others, on the (can't find) thread.

huh? I assume the Friends reunion thread or whatever? Have to take pretty much anything rec has said lately with a grain of salt. He's been a little off.

I'm just wondering how reupping with ND and trying to grow the NBC Sports channel and brand shows they are a joke, that's all. I don't really pay much attention to any of their sitcoms or other programming.

Signing a past-its-prime football school to a big contact is not "growing" it's network.

Lol right? Who wants a team that draws the biggest ratings in college football. NBC is stupid

NBC is a joke to me because they refuse to show certain events in the Olympics live.

This is a great link for tv ratings. I just did a quick look, no number crunching but it appears Notre Dame or Alabama had the most views in total this year. Too lazy.

Non-bowl games with a +5.0 rating:

Alabama - Georgia - 9.8
Notre Dame - USC - 9.4
Alabama - LSU - 6.8
Texas A&M - Alabama - 6.1
Michigan - Ohio State - 5.8
Notre Dame - Oklahoma - 5.2
Stanford - Oregon - 5.1
Florida - Florida State - 5.1

Alabama with 3 of the top 4.

And was in 4 or 5 of the top 15 games this year. Poor decision though.

This was not a stupid move by NBC, at all. Notre Dame will always pull ratings, no matter how good their team is.

Speaking of NBC, what do you guys think about Mike Mayock? It seems he does pretty much all the ND games on the network, and my opinion is that even though he's knowledgeable as hell about the game, a little of him goes a looooong way. Just curious as to how some of you others feel.

Everyone here knows that. But it doesn't fit their ND bashing agenda.

I think it's safe to say ND's viewership numbers are ballooned because nearly all of their games are on a OTA network and not ESPN/FSN/etc.

Between their mindset that tape delaying to ratings slots is still a good idea in this age of information, and the fact that they have given up every big contract they had over the past 15 years (NBA, NFL AFC games, NASCAR, etc.), NBC Sports has become a joke. All they have are niche sports (some tennis, golf, a little horse racing), NHL (which still rates like ass in the US), and really the only thing they do anything remotely close to worth a shit is ND.

Great point actually. The other top viewed games that were posted earlier were all pay per view weren't they? What's that? They were all on CBS or ABC? Well shit.
