Chapman get the win? Would love to see him get a win and save in same day. Has that ever happened before?

I know pitchers have gotten 2 saves or 2 wins. But has anyone ever gotten a save and a win?

Probably happened several times pre 1969 when a save was not an official stat, and there were a tremendous amount more of double headers with maybe 5 a year scheduled from the start.

If only he was on MLB Tonight and not BBTN, then I might catch what he says on the situation.

I love when someone famous dies and he goes over all the stats in a little segment. I also love every Sunday he runs through the week of baseball and goes over all the crazy stats from it.

He's basically the GOAT on ESPN.

No doubt it's happened.

Really? You seem sure of it. I dont doubt it has, but as has been mentioned already, not a lot of years where saves have been recorded.

I don't think it matters anymore, there shouldn't be a save opportunity tonight, lol. Hoover will probably pitch though so I guess there is a chance.

My 1st thought on this gave me a quick answer. Rich Gossage was an easy guess. I started in 1978 and on July 2nd he did it.

Rollie Fingers, Jeff Reardon, Bruce Sutter......I bet it's been done dozens of times.

My phone is sucking ass on MLB reference but I've checked 2 players (Gossage and Fingers) and both did it within the first two years I had checked.

Too many opportunities....just gazing through those two pitchers game logs it looks like they had 5-10 double headers a year in the mid-late 70's.....mixed in with games like the Reds just played and extra inning games going into the next day. I bet it's been done close to 50 times.
