I'll at least give it a try since I really enjoy that genre and the other two movies in the series are among my favorites. As long as it's nothing like M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening -- I thought we had accidentally walked into Pineapple Express -- then I can keep an open mind. That movie was by far the worst "thriller/horror" movie I've ever seen. I haven't been able to take Mark Wahlberg serious ever again.

What I really love about The Village is the cinematography and the overall ambiance of the film. The darkness about it, the chilling score and the inventiveness of it all. The acting was superb. I mean, it's a really great cast. You're talking about four Academy Award nominated actors and two winners. Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Joaquin Phoenix (whom may just be a top five or six actor of our generation). It was an incredible all-star lineup. Where I was disappointed is that M. Night did not just go with the creatures in the woods idea. The build up to that story was actually terrifying and a real horror movie. He should have fully developed that idea. Instead, he wanted a love story, which I also get.

The movie is ok before that. And like you said, had he gone with the whole beasts in the wild I might actually like the movie. The cheesy dumbass ending actually is what ruined it for me. M Night ruins a lot of great ideas he has cause he doesnt, imo, know how to get them down on paper and into a script. Sixth Sense is probably the best idea he didnt screw up ever.

Signs, Happening, Village, etc are all tremendous ideas...he just sucks at writing them in a script and always has to ruin it by "tricking" the audience. Why cant the idea be a good enough idea without a twist??? Here is a hint, M...it usually is!!!!!!
