Ya carry a knife? Luckily I've not had to do it but have heard if being attacked try puncturing the dogs lung. If it's somebodies pet they should still be able to get the dog to a vet and save it with only one punctured lung.

If it's attacking me, IDGAF if it someone's pet or not, so I'm not going to worry about whether or not the dog can be saved.
