How many millions does CBS need to throw at Gus Johnson to get him back casting March Madness?

He's the best announcer of all time. Let's get it done CBS.

It's a damn joke they chose Jim Nantz over him. Gus Johnson is the man.

I heard that he was doing a conference tourney this past week, and the network, Big 10 I think, lost audio right at the end, which turned out to be a buzzer beater, and deprived the audience of the very enthusiasm they hired him to provide. Just wasn't as exciting with video only.

Gus was NEVER going to take Ole Jim's place. It is his tournament until he retires.Terry_Tate;1407983 wrote:It's a damn joke they chose Jim Nantz over him. Gus Johnson is the man.

I know, Gus is just better though. Nantz is fine but Gus being the voice of the NCAA tournament would be perfect. Nobody goes to a game because Nantz is doing it, but people do that for Gus more than anyone.

Jim Nantz, because he is so stately, elevates the prestige of any game he broadcasts. It's similar to how Bob Costas could make a T-ball game sound as if it were the World Series. Gus Johnson does not do that. Gus is better than Nantz at certain parts of the tournament, however, such as the sideshows (early-round buzzer beaters, upset games, etc.)
Gus just doesn't have that grand manner about him that guys like Nantz and Costas do. For that reason, I prefer Nantz at the Final Four.

Nantz is lame and boring. I get tired just listening to him talk honestly, as I did in the big ten tourney. He doesn't compare to guys like Tirico, Buck and especially Costas who are usually interesting and have great lines in big momentsreclegend22;1408062 wrote:Jim Nantz, because he is so stately, elevates the prestige of any game he broadcasts. Agreed that Costas is way better than Nantz, but, while pretty vanilla at times, Nantz still sets the stage better than Gus Johnson ever could at the Final Four IMO. Perhaps it's just my preference.Classyposter58;1408074 wrote:Nantz is lame and boring. I get tired just listening to him talk honestly, as I did in the big ten tourney. I know you don't mean Joe Buck. I don't think anyone has ever accused him of being interesting.Classyposter58;1408074 wrote:Nantz is lame and boring. I like listening to him in baseball games a lot actually. My personal favorite might be Doc Emerick though, definitely up there with Thorne and Clement as the top hockey announcers of the last twenty yearsMulva;1408086 wrote:I know you don't mean Joe Buck. Nantz isn't bad, but he's no Gus Johnson. Nantz is like a bank; he's good, open during standard business hours, always there.
Gus is like the hot chick that everyone wants to bang, but can't because CBS sports won't give him a fat contract to deposit inside of Jim Nantz.

Nantz is good for The Masters, but bad for college basketball. He is to reserved for the excitement that is the NCAA tournament.

When has Gus had the opportunity to set the stage for a Final Four? Gus is the best in the business, and eventually he will take over the tournament when the old, boring guys are no longer around.reclegend22;1408076 wrote:Agreed that Costas is way better than Nantz, but, while pretty vanilla at times, Nantz still sets the stage better than Gus Johnson ever could at the Final Four IMO. Gus is doing soccer games for Fox Sports, so if he is missed, you can catch him doing some games. He will even be lead FOX's lead PxP guy for the World Cup next summer. I haven't heard him do a game yet so I can't tell you if he is good or not.

Oh I know he is. I even watched a completely meaningless soccer game(not really a huge fan of soccer) JUST BECAUSE Gus Johnson was commentating the game. He isn't as fun at soccer though; the guy was born to cast March Madness. :thumbup:sportswizuhrd;1408199 wrote:Gus is doing soccer games for Fox Sports, so if he is missed, you can catch him doing some games. This was my first thought when Nantz was brought up. He is golf, Gus is cbb.Prescott;1408166 wrote:Nantz is good for The Masters, but bad for college basketball. He is to reserved for the excitement that is the NCAA tournament.

I've listened to a few. Gus is really good but as Midstate said he is still learning but by next year it will be awesome to hear him call the World Cup games.sportswizuhrd;1408199 wrote:Gus is doing soccer games for Fox Sports, so if he is missed, you can catch him doing some games. Nantz is "A tradition unlike any other..."
Gus is "Ooooohhhhh my goodness"
