I was talking with my oldest son (6) and he said he liked the color purple. As a heterosexual male who lives vicariously through him and his standout immature youth sports abilities, it got me thinking....what if this kid turns out to be gay?

I have nothing against gays, I support gay marriage....but as a father I think it would be hard to have a child bring a same sex partner over to the house and to family events, etc, etc.

Now I know the chances that my son is gay because he likes the color purple are slim. But I'm a fucking weirdo and it made me think about how I would handle it.

In the end, I would give my blessing because I wouldn't want to ostracize someone I love from my family. But I think despite my support of gays, it would be hard. I think in the end, I have no issues with everyone else's gays...but I would have an issue with my own gays.

How would YOU handle it?

This thread is about how you would handle a gay child.

When I try and solicit christian athletes for my radio show or RT the show? Oh, because I've never admitted to being a christian and the station is fully aware of it. I didn't know non-christians couldn't work for christians or interview them. My bad.

Oh, I didn't realize purple is any way connected to sexual orientation.
purple was the color worn by Roman Emperors and magistrates, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. Since that time, purple has been commonly associated with royalty and piety.

Not sure how I would handle it honestly, but would sure as hell try my damndest for my kid who I would love no less certainly.

Pretty sure you have nothing to worry about, unless he sprouts a twig when you show him this pic...

My sister is gay. No one in my family has a problem with it whatsoever. We are glad she is happy. She is the exact same person she has always been. Happy, outgoing, funny, caring and an all-around great person. Her sexual orientation is a non-issue.

If I ever have children and one of them is homosexual, I will be worried/nervous for them because I know their life may end up being more difficult than a child who is straight. That is ultimately a problem with the world, not with the person. Outside of that, it would not matter.

Good post. I would think that anyone who has spent significant time around a person who is gay would have similar thoughts.

He was ridiculed based on His claim of being the "King of Kings." Which, is technically royalty. He wasn't ridiculed for His wearing of purple as a color.

I honestly do not like hearing, "just as long as they are happy" talk.

There are a lot of things that make people happy that aren't "right." There is a lot more to life than being "happy." Pursuing happiness is so selfish. It is easy to attain in short bursts, and that means it is temporary. I want my kids to have purpose with their lives. To mean something. To value life and others. To make an impact.

There is so much pain in life, but the pleasure comes through pain. Every kid rides a bike and it makes them "happy." But, when they learn to ride, fall, scrape their knees, etc. they aren't happy. When they accomplish something through pain and trouble, they find purpose and meaning. I hope my kids find meaning in life that goes beyond a temporary feeling.
