At what age did you start or try illegal drugs?
What age did you stop using illegal drugs? If so why?

I started at the age of 14 with marijuania and was user up to the age of 23. My wife and I decided that this was not the path we wanted for our lives and our children. We as responsible parent have keep up with the drug culture for the protection of the kids.

I have a resent medical situation and in doing research marijuania does have some benefits for this condition so state marijuania is a presription medication. Ohio is not a medical marijuania state. I been debating on the situation and what to do. So far I have done nothing.

Also, everyone seems shocked when I say that the drug culture took over in 6th/7th grade at my school. Was it like that for anyone else?

How old are you?

I'm 28 and I would say it was more 8th or 9th grade from what I remember. Nowadays though, it's everywhere.

24. People started dabbling in it in 6th/7th and basically the "stoners" were established by 8th grade.

Sounds about right with our age difference. It's nuts nowadays in middle and high schools with drugs, alcohol and sex.

I went through school in the very late 80's/early 90's.....then it was just the druggie types doing drugs.....about 1993 several of the soccer players really got it going and it worked it's way through the football team and more popular athletes. Now it's really about anywhere you care to look.

My daughter is a senior and kinda beyond the do or gonna do starting point.....seems like about 9th grade for the better off kids but the generational trouble kids.....middle of 7th grade.

The transition from jr high to high school is when I noticed weed and alcohol. Now, if you look back to where grew up it's all about the prescription drugs and even on to heroin. It's an epidemic.

Didn't have anything to do with pot or street drugs in high school - the "stoner" crowd in the town where I grew up was -not- a bunch with whom I wanted to get mixed up. A major in-school law enforcement raid during my sophomore year (hauled out 40 kids in a student body of maybe 375) reinforced that thought.

Smoked perhaps once a week through college, stopped when I left due to the fact that I had to be able operate tractor trailer rigs on short notice as part of my job. By the time that need was past, we had children and didn't feel it was appropriate for us to have illegal substances around the house. Now that the kids are on their own, I just don't think the occasional buzz is worth the professional hassle of even a minor possession arrest. My wife is less concerned about this and will occasionally imbibe in the Evil Weed with her friends.

However, if it becomes legal, you'll see Lady D'Friskies and I firing up a fat boy in the hot tub once a week or so.

I smoked for the first time at 18 and pretty much stopped at age 26 but I still sometimes enjoy lighting it up with friends maybe once every 6 months or so.

My best friend and I smoked way more then any two people should during college but both managed to somehow graduate early and get decent jobs. The reason I stopped is because my girlfriend didn't enjoy kissing me after I smoked. Now when I do occasionally smoke it's a very small amount and I don't usually even feel anything.

BTW I would say most people started in 7th and 8th grade at my school. When our school started drug testing for sports though almost all the athletes stopped.

Unless your daughter is not going to college, I wouldn't be too sure of this.

Yep. I was never really exposed to drugs until after high school.

Same thing at my school, except almost all the athletes quit playing sports

I would say 8th/9th in my school, but I was nestled deep in the suburbs. 7th is probably right for some of the earlier adopters, but it definitely wasn't widespread.

Frankly it's been around for a lot longer than nowadays.

In the late 60's through the early 80's recreational use of pot was quite common and even considered "acceptable" as long as you were discrete about it.

I never experimented with it until after high school in the late 70's. Frankly I enjoyed it for several years but gave it up when I decided to get serious about graduating from college...and - oh yeah - get married.

I still believe that pot should be legalized and regulated much like alcohol. The criminalization of pot is overkill. If I had to choose between getting in a car with someone who smoked a joint vs. someone who has had a couple of drinks, I'll choose the pothead every time.

I haven't smoked pot in 25 years but if it were legalized I would definitely add a little Kona bud to my top shelf collection for special occasions.

:D

Weed is overrated.
