personal belief is religion was created as a way to answer the unknown, such as, "Why are we here?" and "How did we get here?"

Is it? Or is it actually one of the most compelling, intelligent arguments that you've read?

This thread is about religion, not your personal beliefs. For RDI's personal belief on religion, please start your own thread.

Atheism. We don't know, so we don't pretend to know. Our guesses are simply hypotheses that will be validated or invalidated with peer reviewed evidence over many centuries.

That is not Atheism. Atheism makes a positive claim that deities do not exist. You're an agnostic if you do not know if there is a deity and do not pretend to know.

Atheism is the lack of belief in gods. The two are often blurred because the religious believers want to exploit the loophole that I cannot prove god doesn't exist, therefore my claim is as equal to their claim. Of course that's ridiculous because religious believers are typically on the lower end of the IQ totem pole and really add no value in real life other than to perpetuate millenial old myths to make themselves feel good about their pathetic lives. Just think how much progress could be had if we stopped believing in useless fairy tales that are designed to exploit the mentally insolvent; depriving them of what little money and intellect they currently possess. Ever met a smart believer? I haven't; it's an oxymoron. And before I hear the claims that so-and-so is a believer and has a PHD from Ohio State(or other top 10 schools in the country), just remember, that person is smart enough to have you "believe" that he believes so that he doesn't have to spend time trying to fix a logically defunct and broken mind.

I think it was brought up to "ground" people so that people didn't run around killing one another. It gives people an initiative to do good and not steal, kill, etc.

Bottom line: It gives everyone the answer to "Why am I on this earth?". People evidently didn't settle for "you evolved over hundreds of millions of years" so people started believing in an imaginary man in the sky.

It's terribly over-simplified, but philosophically, if extrapolated, it's not completely without merit.

Sure, but I think the only argument is "where did everything start/come from?". Everything thing else in that statement has answers to and been explained.
