i don't buy their comback to the heavy side yet, once you sellout you're always gonna be a sellout. iron maiden has never ever sold out on anything except stadiums

They may be sellout's but, simply put Metallica>Iron Maiden, easy.

Number of the beast.

and nc52, if you consider Metallica "selling out", think of it this way: If you were in a band, would you slow down and branch out your style if it gained you more fans and more $$$$? I think its a no brainer, I would certainly do it. Although I cant stand St. Anger that was shit.

Greatest metal band of all time!

1. Revelations
2. Hallowed Be Thy Name
3. Powerslave
4. Wasted Years
5. Fear of the Dark (live versions)

A great "unknown" song is Total Eclipse. It didn't make the cut to be on Number of the Beast, but the group liked it enough to play it live for a while.

yeah they sold out to the mainstream. they tried to fix something that wasn't broke. half of their fans now didn't know who metallica was back in the 80's. they found it after all the top 40 crap from the black album up to and including St. Anger

So, by sold out to the mainstream, you mean, enabled millions more people to enjoy their art? I don't understand where average jackoffs get this sense of ownership over artists. If you didn't like their mainstream music, that's cool. But they didn't commit a crime to anyone by creating music that other people (in greater mass) now enjoy. Sorry that you don't feel special anymore for going against the grain with your musical taste.

Iron Maiden >>>>> Metallica

Metallica may be the king's of Thrash but they bow before the knee's of the mighty Iron Maiden. Then again i'd put just about anyone before Metallica post 1990 when they started putting out cookie cutter drivel.

Side note: I've seen Maiden twice and they absolutely kick ass!

The Black Album was not that bad and Death Magnetic was a return to form I believe, not RTL or Kill Em All form but good nonetheless.

And I am sorry but Kill em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets trump any Maiden Albums and I am a big Maiden fan.

Touche,haha

But Through The Never and Don't tread on me are good songs.

At the end of the day, The Black Album may have been more mainstream than it should have been but I like it and it did help bring in new metal fans who would go back and listen to Old Metallica and then pick up on bands like Maiden.

Favorite Maiden song is Run to the Hills!

Dude come on half of Metallica's fans now weren't born in the 80's!

Metallica has basically become like Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, etc, etc in that they are what I call a "gateway" band.
