I may be wrong, but wasn't most of the technology in that movie created at Ohio State? For some reason I thought it was.thavoice;1378320 wrote:What movies did you really enjoy when it came out, thought was magnificent, but now you wouldnt give the time of day?
I would have to go with Jurassic Park. I remember when it came out that movie was H U G E. Was destined to be one of the best ever, but now it is just a forgotten movie and if its on TV just doesnt get me to watch even a minute.
I think the initial breakthrough in technology is what wowed everyone. Hadnt really seen stuff like that before, but not we are not in awe of it much.

Are we talking the original superman's from 1970's or the 2006 version (that was crappy from the beginning)?

I'm talking about the original Superman with Christopher Reeves. Shi-tay!

I saw it on TV and thought good lord this looks like a play, guess I forgotthavoice;1378320 wrote:What movies did you really enjoy when it came out, thought was magnificent, but now you wouldnt give the time of day?

Agreed re Jurassic Park. The technological advances were awesome, but underneath the story wasn't that great. It was like a 2 hour lovefest with CGI.

I'll agree with MB, but only cause Forest Gump is a dogshit movie to begin with.justincredible;1378657 wrote:
However, even if it was good, the way it was shot and such certainly doesn't stand up today. That movie is horrible in many regards if it were made in 2013. Tom Hanks' acting is about the only redeeming value.

Hanks was good, and I did enjoy it when it came out (certainly didn't deserve to win Best Picture over Pulp Fiction).
The John Lennon scene is laughable when watching it in '13.

Batman is an iffy IMO.TedSheckler;1378712 wrote:You cray. The first Batman is terrible. It was awesome at the time, but it doesn't hold up at all. Have you tried to watch it in the last 10 years? Awful.
And BTTF 1 & 2 still holds up.
Sure, it might not hold up to Nolan's films. But at the time it was the best superhero film ever. Sure, the Prince soundtrack is cheesy, and Nicholson might have hammed it up a bit too much. But this was 1989.

That's the point. It doesn't hold up today. Try to watch it again. Lets see if you can make it all the way through.

Land before time. Sharp tooth just isn't as scary as he once was. Also he is a T Rex, quit calling him sharp tooth.

I guess I misunderstood the original point of the thread. I thought it was for movies that were good when they came out (perception or otherwise) and now are not worth viewing or less appealing.Laley23;1379043 wrote:I'll agree with MB, but only cause Forest Gump is a dogshit movie to begin with.

Mortal Kombat
Beverly Hills Ninja
Not that either of them are great movies but I enjoyed both in the 90s and couldn't make it through either of them a few weeks ago.
