The year we shut out everyone in the league may have been my senior year when there was only 18 pts. scored against us. As I remember now, it wasn't the greatest sportsmanship as we put the first sting in to stop other teams 3rd string from scoring at the end of the game, but at the time sportsmanship wasn't an issue. I think we beat Manchester 69-0 and the starters only played half the game.

Flash, per my records, we've only shutout the entire league once, and it was in the 80's. (See below)

We were in the AOL (not the AOC) from 1983-88...six seasons.

Teams were: Orrville, West Holmes, Northwest, Fairless, Triway, Manchester & Coventry.

Orrville won AOL titles in 84, 85, 86, 87 & 88. The 83 year we lost 2 conf. games (to NW and WH) but ended up in the state finals that year.

The following are the points given up by Orrville in AOL play from 1983-88:

1983 - 52 (shutouts against Fairless & Manchester) (8.66 pts per game)
1984 - 12 (shutouts against Northwest, Coventry, Triway & WH) (2 pts per game)
1985 - 37 (shutouts against Northwest, Fairless) (6.16 pts per game)
1986 - 27 (shutouts against Coventry, Triway, Fairless) (4.5 pts per game)
1987 - 0 (shutouts against NW, Manchester, Triway, Fairless & WH)
For some reason we didn't play Coventry that year, but we did play them in 1988 as a league opponent.
1988 - 21 (shutouts against Coventry, Fairless, NW) (3.5 pts per game)

That's 19 shutouts in 35 AOL games from 1983-88. A record of 33-2 and a TOTAL of 149 points scored on us in 35 games (4.25 pts per game). And a perfect 17-0 at home in that stretch.

We made the playoffs each of those 6 years and were a combined 7-6 in playoff games, making the state finals twice (83 & 85), but also losing in the first round twice (87 & 88).

That is why Redrider1 is the best. Great job on the stats as usual.

.............maybe Audrey told them they can sit out if they have a headache because it might be a concussion. It simply comes down to kids not wanting to play because its too much work, its too hard, and oh by the way, they may get a boo-boo!

The courier crescent took a great picture of that 87' defense that year standing in front of barricades and police cars. Clay Tipton and Jason Haley were the LB's that year, Bill Rice at nose, Dalesandro's at tackles, I believe Kirby Shupp and Tim Shonk played DE's. The DB's were Hamsher, Mosely, and Simms. I am sure I missed a few names, but man that was a tough group of guys. That was also Mo's last season and it ended with a bench clearing brawl in week 11 against Struthers!

^^ this is why there needs to be a "classic game of the week" on the A channel. Show some of this tradition that fewer & fewer of our kids seem to know about.

They used to do that. Man that is a great team and a lot of great athletes. We have been blessed in Orrville.

Clay Tipton and Jason Haley. Is that the best combo to ever play LB in Orrville history? Wow!!

That's no good for orrville . Especially when your playing teams like Madison that's had. 85 kids coming out all summer. Mansfield has like 65. I'm sure ashland probably has 80 or so. Lexington probably 45 . Wooster probably has 50-70. Westholmes probably has 50-70 and clearfork probably 45

That is what we have all been saying. Kids need to get off the couch and do something.

So you're saying the smallest enrollment in the league has the smallest team too?

I second it. I nearly weep when my brother tells me that a current player asks him if the Smithies were any good back when he played (2001-2003).

This is coming from the boys and not a coach, so take it for what it's worth, the kids like the Hershberger boy, works hard and has a good attitude, there is a chance for a couple of others also, but his name is mentioned the most.

New York Yankees (9061-6626 W-L, 1913 - 2013) - 27 World Championships, 40 Pennants, and 51 Playoff Appearances,
Cleveland Indians (7830-7556 W-L, 1915 - 2013) - 2 World Championships, 5 Pennants, and 10 Playoff Appearances

Go Yankees, Go Red Riders

Just for you BRF fyi

Not sure I'd call him a front-runner. His NFL team has no history of success and his high school team was not good last year.

However, I can't rule it out, either. Yankees fans from outside New York do tend to be front-runners.
