Nobody is going to do that even for $2-$3 on a $100 dinner.

Wherein they point to the little sign by the hostess that no one pays attention to as they enter. LMAO, people couldn't defend themselves from eating at a restaurant that allowed smoking, you think they're going to see a little sign?

He said leave collateral. As in, leave a credit card or your license or phone or something and then go to an ATM and get cash out. Even sleeper with his billions probably doesn't usually incur meal costs that amount to what a cell phone or something is worth.

If it isnt clearly visable to all parties you would have a defense. Im not saying anyone is going to cause this much of a hassle. But stuff like this is what certain attorneys make a living with.

I won't go to the ATM but I would definitely think about stiffing the waiter and would certainly tell the manager I won't be coming back and why. I'd feel bad about the tip thing but it would probably be even more effective than telling the manager. Because unhappy employees suck to deal with and if you can't keep quality employees since they never get tips your business will suffer.

I use my credit card over my debit card due to the rewards points and the increased protection/ease of dealing with fraud. I have never had Huntington call me and say there is unusual activity on my card in Panama City, Florida, but I have had Discover call me. If a business that I regular decides to implement this, I will no longer regularly give them business.

Use a Discover Card. Problem solved.

Darn sure only Visa and MC charges these fee's. Not swiping a card (merchant hand keys the number) is a "non qual" fee to businesses who accept V/MC.

Pretty much V/MC suck but since they are tied to banks it's whats most used.

If you don't have proper payment, you are legally allowed to leave collateral and go retrieve a method of payment. What do you think happens when you forget your wallet at a restaurant? They don't arrest you on the spot and they don't make you wash dishes in the back either.

This. Stiffing the waiter is something I don't normally condone, but if you leave a place unhappy unfortunately the best way is to punish the front end employees and never return.

And no one is going to bother with that, likely you included, over something that amounts to less than $2. I get your point, it's just not practical.

The waiter will have his revenge when he sells your credit card info to some scammer.

LMAO...$0.40-$0.60 on their $20 Bob Evans bill. Not even worth driving to an ATM.

This will apply to your bank card if you use it as credit instead of debit. Banks give reward points on their cards when you use them as credit because it cost the banks more to process them as debit. Complete opposite for retailers.

Receipts only print the last 4 digits of the card number. The waiter would have to know explicitly that you were going to stiff him before giving you back your credit card. The risk is greater that he would already be a scammer and rip off your credit card BEFORE he knew of your intentions. Plus, credit cards are much easier to fight fraud than anything else. I've never had a problem disputing fraudulent charges.

I thought he was more of a Mcdonalds man (his grandkids like it if I recall) than a Bob Evans guy.

By the time I stiff him, he's not going to know my credit card info unless he's saving EVERYBODY's.

If a restaurant does this, I will pay it one time. After that, I will find somewhere else to eat.

I don't expect a business to cover the cost internally, but if there are businesses who are willing to do so, I'm certainly going to opt for patronage of those kinds of businesses.

Competition.

Ok so I usually press credit when using my bank card. Now I'm going to have to press debit. End of thread.

Yes, as long as you have not run a tab.
