The Alexander situation stinks, but worst of all was walnut ridge not having a bus and not competing at licking valley. Absolutely ridiculous and further cements the ridiculousness of our school district. Coach chuck had at least two that go to districts. Told to wait for the Afrocentric bowling bus sitting at ridge till 845 total garbage. Feel for them all they truly were screwed.

Before the city league topic closes down for the year, a few years ago some of the best city league rivalries. What are some good ones? From the last few years
you had Russell(W) vs. Ford(BH) wrestled like 8 times from sophomore to senior year will russell being an SQ and Ford 6th at districts. Quinonez(W) vs. Monroe(MF)
and Gray(W) vs. Gray(MF) were two very good ones this year.

Really. Week before Brookhaven didn't have a bus to the city championship. Luckily that's only a ten minute car ride, not a hour like licking valley.

Anybody know why Africentrics 6,13, and 26 all defaulted out? I thought the 13 and 26 had great shots at going to districts.

Horrible, but not surprising. West didn't have a bus, and had to "car pool" with Briggs to Marysville. The lack of support for City League wrestling at some of these schools (and in the district as a whole via lack of middle school program) is appalling.

Terrible, but not surprising. City coaches, of ALL sports, know and could tell horror stories concerning the district. Some have said complain or have parents complain...done and been done many times over...doesn't matter, it won't change! Coaches outside the city, not all but a lot, often look down on city teams and city coaches and assume they're better...the reality is most of them couldn't and/or wouldn't coach in the city! Keep doing what your doing Chuck and tell your kids to keep their heads up!!

I've coached in both the city and the OCC. Any sane person who argues that you are playing with even the same REMOTE resources has their head in the sand. No support. No resources. No understanding for what it takes to be successful. I am proud of what the Cowboys have done with Coach Ritchie and now my brother, Scott. These boys wrestle all spring and summer, compete hard and train the right way. And they do it, at many times, with NEGATIVE SUPPORT!

In my last year at West (2006), an administrator was concerned that my team was acting "elitist". They ate together, talked only to each other and stayed out of trouble. They all graduated. They all got solid grades. After graduation, they all went on to "career" jobs, the military or college. So, because they didn't mix with a student body that was academically defunct and, in general, acted like idiots, my team was elitist. If that is the definition, OK...then they are elitist. Success and being a good kid isn't celebrated; it is berated.

I love to watch City kids handle business, as long as it isn't the expense of my Orange squad :)

Good luck to all City guys, espec. Aden, Marcos, Little Zach, Paco and B Grey (with maybe a little miracle in there for Stockton). Coach luck to my bro and Coaches Lawler and Thorp...get it!

Columbus City is pathetic.
There is Zero support from central office. Now In my experience as a head coach in in the city, I have been blessed with GREAT administrators and Athletic directors that know what it takes to be able to compete in wrestling. This situation would have never happened to our squad.
As for not sending a bus to pick up kids, that is unreal. No matter how much we complain we haven't been heard. Unacceptable and disgusting. I feel for the young men that deserved a shot at moving on to the next level..

It's not like you can just say....go get'em next year. For some of these kids, I assume that this was THE shot. There will be no next year for some of them. After what these kids sacrificed, the school district should be ashamed.

I have as well and appreciate your comments; hurts when the city loses coaches like you! Student-athletes are elite and they should act and be treated as such!! GL at Darby!

Just so you know...I offered the Walnut Ridge coach the ability to weigh in up to 10am this past Saturday. He only was bringing 6 kids and still had no support to get them there...anyway.
I hope someone asks CPS how this can happen.

He has really turned a corner the past few weeks, so hopefully he gets out. Will have a tough semi against Highland kid if he makes it! I like Alec and Hannibal's draw, but you still have to wrestle!!

GL to all city wrestlers this weekend!!!!
