With regards to insurance, I read where not all companies discriminate based on breed. So it probably pays to shop around considering it's potentially a significant portion of your premium (maybe 10-20%?)

State farm covers dogs under liability umbrellas. No breed restrictions

We're going with USAA, with whom we've had our rental insurance. Our insurance was already going to be higher, with our other rescue being a Great Dane-Pit mix, both of those breeds being considered in their top 11 "riskiest" breeds.

Much appreciated, sportchampps, but we're in Akron, and we're okay with doing things on the up-and-up. Thanks for the offer, though!

Ivan is doing fine. He is adapting well to life in our house. VERY submissive dog. He gets sheepish if my little 5-pounder starts growling at him.
However, his personality is coming out more. He cuddles with my wife on the couch whenever he goes into the family room. He is generally a lazy dog, but he'll come up to me in my office for a scratch behind the ears. He's still skiddish around strangers, but he's adapting well. No fighting among the dogs. He's sleeping on a blanket next to me right now. One HUGE thing we didn't know about at the time, but he was potty trained wherever he had been, so we've had very few accidents. A pleasant surprise to be sure.
Reaffirms that we certainly made the right call.
