Seriously? My kids have had two this week. For low temps in the upper single digits to lower teens. I remember my hair not yet dry from my last minute shower freezing solid almost instantly in sub zero temps while walking to the bus.

A) Clueless parent doesn't know how to dress their child for the cold
B) Child stands outside waiting for the bus
C) Bus arrives 5 minutes left due to "weather" delays
D) Parent sues school system for child freezing, getting sick, frostbite, etc.

I agree, it's lame.

To be fair there are kids who have to be outside for long periods of time. If wind chills are in the negatives, that's dangerous. I walked about a quarter mile to the end of the drive for the bus. So if you had young kids doing that, that could be dangerous. Or you have city kids who have to walk to a certain place to wait for the bus.
I don't think it's a bad thing. BUT, in most cases I'm doubting that the temp changes much 2 hours later.

Its been in the negative with wind chills in Akron the past few days. Walking 15-20 minutes in that shit sucks!!

I understand what they are trying to do, but my wife and I wondered how much warmer it really is 2 hours later. Also, it's not just the bus stop, some kids have to walk a ways to school. When the windchill is -15, I don't want my kid out in it too long.

Agree with the others. It's lame, but we drive our son to school everyday, so he's dropped off in front of the school and doesn't have to wait outside. I don't mind it for the reasons others stated.

The temps do not change much in 2hrs. I believe that just keeps them in the state minimum to call it a full day and not count towards their calamity days.

So do kids in Alaska and the far northern states not go to school then in the winter? Just them being p***ies. I remember we missed two days in high school when I went because of cold weather, it failed to reach 0 those days however

We aren't in Alaska. Its a little different when its an everyday occurence.

My professor was complaining about it today. He is originally from Nigeria and said the coldest it gets there is 70 degrees. Imagine coming from there and getting off of a plane to this. Whew

Never happened when I was in school. Not to take this to the politics forum, but our generation (X) seems to be overly obsessed with being helicopter parents and protecting our children from any and all potential harm which ultimately is unhealthy because they don't become independent.

It's -16 with no wind chill and with the wind chill it feels like -34 right now. No delays here.

The whole time I have lived here in North Dakota there hasn't been any school closing or delays.

I can tell you first hand, that school is never cancelled here for cold weather. I've seen kids at the bus stop at -60.

Come on people, use some common sense. If you live in an area where this weather is normal, you are more prepared for it, physically and mentally. That is not the case here. What does it hurt to have a 2 hour delay? Some people piss and moan about this generation vs another, yet they bitch and moan about a simple delay to try to keep kids safe because it might be inconvenient for them.

No different than southern states who close down for 1" of snow. They aren't used to it, and aren't prepared for it.

I do have to admit, I'm not a fan of parents taking their kids to school. Part of growing up and learning about life involved walking to or riding the bus to school. Seems like you are spoiling them by taking them.

Not a direct attack on GoChiefs, just my general opinion.
