Those fees are essentially taking $$ that would otherwise help other student athletes and going to lawyers/agents instead.
The cat's out of the bag as far as transactional costs. The negotiating between schools and coaches/television/bowls has already brought that into the mix in a big way.

I don't feel sorry the players. They're not playing football with a gun barrel up to their head. My criticism of the entire setup has to do with the schools wanting the best of both amateur and professional athletics. I don't think they will be able to ride this knife edge forever and that the fundamental model will have to be changed.

Just because schools take all the money from the revenue sports and throw it into non-revenue sports doesn't mean there isn't a lot of money there in the first place. The problem as I see it has to do with BCS level football and big time basketball.

Then cut football and basketball and we can have more poor and stupid black people running around the streets instead of bettering themselves in college and in life. Your solutions are shit and grossly racist.

There is a need for a developmental league for the NBA and the NFL. Whether it's hosted by colleges or created on from scratch, it'll happen. The people who currently play college sports with aspirations of the pros will have an opportunity. And if they decide to put their income toward taking classes somewhere, more power to them.

Agreed. We need to push more Africans into chasing a pipe dream that is the NBA/NFL. Then when it inevitable doesn't work out, they'll be just fine picking cotton for the rest of their lives.
