I don't begrudge Phil making as much as he can. I just think it's a stretch for him to cry about his taxes and expect average people to either sympathize with him or rally around his plight. I mean, if he has enough to get in a group to buy the Padres he's got a hell of a lot more than the average golfer out there. "Evil rich motherfucking prick"? Your words, not mine. I never cared much for Phil as a golfer, but it never had anything to do with how much money he made.

Who said he was crying about it; who said he was asking for sympathizers? He was simply stating economic reality and articulating exactly what happens when government overreaches, causing people to change their behavior ------ something liberal economists NEVER grasp.

I mean, I thought NY was bad with a 9-10% state income tax. I think CA charging 13%+ is going to be epic failure with federal taxes going up. They already had to carve out a tax break for the movie studios because, surprise, they started making films in Canada and elsewhere with much lower taxes.

About everyone who can willl leave. No one is going to voluntarily hang around get bent over for 13%+.

My new boss left just California for our plant here in Tennessee. He said one of the biggest reasons he left California is because the state's tax system is out of control. Tennessee has a 0% state income tax rate.

I asked him if he'll miss California since it offers so much more than catfish, grits, and barbecue. He laughed and said, "Trust me. California is governed by Marxists and populated by a wide range of kooks. I won't miss a damned thing."

And you can still live in CA up to 6 months a year, while claiming residency in a state with no income taxes. It's a no brainer for people like Phil that aren't tied down by their business.

The flipside is maybe most who could do that were already doing it.

If you never had an ounce of economic/fiscal sanity - if that issue is completely irrelevant to you - then socialism becomes very appealing. It's a feel good policy of appeasement. Charity is a wonderful thing when you don't have to worry about how to pay for it.
