Pretty much. It's one of those bars you go to if you are really drunk and dgaf. Pretty much how I ended up there. Was at a place in Mansfield, some ski resort thing, and they had something in place that was a bit diff that I had not seen before. It may be prevelant elsewhere but I have never seeen it.
If ya wanted to open a tab you gave them your CC, which I have seen before, but then issued you a card that when you got drinks they just swiped it and whatever you got goes onto that card. When you wanna cash out they swipe it to see how much you bought and then ya pay it off. Guess that is a way this doesnt happen much....or i bet was put into place so barkeeps didnt forget to mark drinks that were purchased

yogiso on frantz road has tables where you have your own beer w four different taps built in the middle. you just swipe your card for every beer you want...never tried it tho

After the first round I decided we werent gonna be drinking much there as it was $5 for a beer and $6.50 for a mix so I said the hell with it. I am used to paying $2 a beer at home so I wasnt gonna be shelling out that much jack there.

Theoretically it sounds good, and I guess it does give you the chance to keep a constant review of your tab. Again my experience has been, even for modest tabs ($40-$50), that they typically give you a free drink or two. I'm sure I'm not alone in rewarding good service and a lower than expected tab, and I'd bet smart bartenders/waitresses know this as well. Unless they are a part-owner, they have absolutely no incentive to overcharge drinks (actually a counter-incentive). Now, maybe unscrupulous ones that are on notice for too many freebies try to offset those by overcharging someone else.

Ya know it wasnt put in to make it better for the customers. It was put in place so bartenders dont forget to put it on a tab, and probably minimizes the amount of freebies they give away. I dont think this was a place that locals would necessarily go frequently as it was a resort. They basically deal with out of towners and the less need for the bartenders to really get to know them, make friends and give away drinks ya know. At a local pub that you go to often and count on repeat customers alot they are a little bit more apt to "take care" of the customers and throw them a freebie everyone once in awhile

The only bar tab dispute I've ever had was when a gold digger I used to hang out with would always try to leave before it was time to pay the tab. (and she was the one who would always suggest that we should start a tab.)

Never had a dispute. Not going to lie, I'm a moocher when it comes to drinks. I'm the guy in the group that always ends up drunk but leaves with the most money in his pocket. It just sorta happens that way. I buy myself drinks, and maybe a friend or two, but I'm never the "buy everyone a round" type guy. Luckily, I hang out with people who ARE the buy everyone a round kind of guys. haha.

I think it's dumb because societal norms say I buy a round, you buy a round, and the other guy buys a round. I'm just gonna buy my drinks. And I'm not a giving guy. If you want to drink, buy your own damn drinks.

ill usually buy 4-6 in a round every weekend...my friends all recipricate..makes it nice to not have to go up to the bar for a while or sometimes not all after that. other times a friend could be broke that week and may not buy you one back but maybe the next week he will i dont really keep track. i know that his sat i went w/4 friends i bought the first round and i didnt buy another drink...my tab was 16 bucks about what it would have been if i bought my own i guess but only had to walk up and order once.

I was in Iowa at a small town bar. When I went in I bought a round for the place. There might have been 8 people in there. Cost me less then $20. I ended up drunk as hell and that was all the money I spent that night. The locals kept buying mine and refused to allow me to buy anything.
