It's been a little while since this topic has been recycled. What are they?

I nominate talk radio shows saying they're going to "break down" an upcoming game. No, they aren't, they're going to discuss the game. To me, breaking down a game would constitute a more organized and more detailed analysis than is typical of such programs.

"One of the best"

Annoncers are always like "Ya know he's one of the best 6'5" small forwards who can slash to the left on a smaller court in D2 at home in the country". Or really any variation of this.

"ill-advised" and "ill-afford"

I've never heard these phrases being used outside of the sports word. What's wrong with saying: "Such and such team can not afford.."?

"You really can't expect to beat a team on the road by doing "X""

Seems they just throw this out there whenever a player does something. Missing a layup, throwing a bounce pass, running the ball on 3rd and 1...etc.

"It's gonna be a war." - no, it's gonna be an athletic contest. not even close to war.

"Tremendous upside" - a favorite on draft day.

"It depends on which team shows up." - ummm, the team that is scheduled to play will show up.

"We'll head them off at the pass"

Seriously pisses me off when I hear people say this.

This one has died down a bit, but in hoops they always mentioned a team or players "length."

"We" from fans. Unless you get a paycheck from the team, not sure why fans say "we are going to beat the other team".

Because if it wasn't for "we" fans, that team wouldn't be making any money and wouldn't even be around.
