I don't know about that. This country has it's fair share of "colorful" characters. I'm sure things are exaggerated for television though.

That is one of 4 possible episodes that run on a perpetual loop:

1. Your are/are not the father!
2. Is it a male or a female, the shemale bonanza
3. My kid is out of control ... send him to bootcamp!
4. The update episode (which is what today is)

Like, let's think this out. Let's assume you are some fat, poor woman from West Virginia. You get a call from NY, and a producer from Maury pays for you to fly out and be on a show for a "surprise." Why do it? You know that shit is going to be badddddd news haha
Your premise is descrbed in Jerry Springer's move: "Ringmaster". These shows explot both uneducated trailer park trash and folks from the ghetto.

I always liked the Boot Camp episodes. Storyline goes as such: "Fat mom comes on the air describing how her 14 year old daughter is whoring around, doing drugs, drinking, sneaking out at night and she wants to have a baby. The crowd boos. Maury offers a kleenex. 14 year old comes out, flips the audience the bird and shouts obscenities. At this point a member of the audience (usually a large African-American woman) confronts the girl and tells her she needs to learn respect and if she were her daughter she would get a beating. Teen age girl responds with the typical "You don't know me!" line while bobbing her head and acting like she is Straight out of Compton. At this point, the boot camp instructor comes out and yells at the teenage girl. Teenage girl rolls her eyes. After the break, we see our lovely teenager at boot camp (or alternatively, at a woman's prison) getting called everything but a white woman. Afterwards, we see the mom and daughter come back out. Daughter cries, tells mom she loves her and promises to be good from now on. Everyone claps and cheers.
