Lombardi didn't actually get hired as the GM. He's the VP of Player Personnel. This leaves the door open for yet another member to join the team. I'm more than happy about this as there will hopefully be at least one more person to shoot down Lombardi's pathetic drafting ideas. Have heard Ray Farmer (VP pro personnel for the Chiefs) could be a possibility.

It seems like Grossi is either jealous of Lombardi or at one time Lombardi fucked Grossis wife or sister. I've never seen since a well thought out agenda against a person since the last presidential election.

I dont think we will see another hire. I think they will make decisions by committee (Haslam, Banner, Lombardi, and Chud). With some people having more say than others (Haslam, Banner).I think thats what I heard Banner said, anyways.

I know it's just Bleacher Report, but this article calmed my spirits about the Lombardi hire. I'm liking Haslam more and more each day... :thumbup:

NFL analyst and former personnel man Michael Lombardi has been hired as the vice president of player personnel, according to the team’s website. He isnot the team’s general manager and will likely not have final say on draft-day decisions and trades.
Lombardi has been out of the game for a number of years but has found his way back to Cleveland. He worked with Bill Belichick in Cleveland back in the late 1980s and early '90s.
This was expected: Don’t act so shocked and surprised that Joe Banner brought in a guy he’s familiar with and shares similar philosophies with.

Besides, Lombardi is to be a member of a committee, not a dictator charged with shaping the team’s roster in his image.
Rob Chudzinski, the Browns’ new head coach and Joe Banner, the team's CEO, will work alongside Lombardi in order to improve an already budding young team.
Banner’s reasoning for this hire makes perfect sense. Lombardi is an experienced NFL personnel man that knows the language, strategies and financial ins and outs of the game.
But what exactly will be expected from the former personnel man?
He will likely be charged with everything that Banner will be unavailable to do, like managing the team’s scouting department and draft preparations. Basically, his duties will include what your typical general manager does without the added stress of financial issues and coaching decisions.
Sure, he will definitely need to use his cap experience to help shape and form a competitive roster, but other people will be working with him on this. General managers typically have that as their duty, but that won’t be his title in Cleveland.
Lombardi will work with players, currently on the roster and potential acquisitions.

Ultimately, how much power will he have in the war room on draft day?
That is where things grow murky.
Banner is a long-time football man that found exponential success in Philadelphia. He is not going to default final say to either Lombardi or Chudzinski, especially with so much on the line during this transition.
Bringing in Lombardi is a smart move for him because, if he plays it right, he can create plausible deniability for himself on draft and personnel mistakes.
In the end, cohesion in the front office and locker room is the best formula for success on the field. Lombardi’s past successes and failures will factor into the process but they alone will not cripple or create the future of the Browns.

The only problem with this is that Lombardi was not hired as a GM. So, currently, we don't have one. I agree that I think they will take a committee approach, but the GM position needs to be filled.

Another possible plus is the fact that the Browns have the second highest amount of cap space available. Maybe with the new regime we will hit free agency a little bit?

have any front office types weighed in on the lombardi hire? i value their opinions more so than what lombardi's friends have to say about him (nantz, simmons, eisen, etc)

I thought in that audio it said Bill Bellicheck said he was great talent evaluator. Take it for what its worth. I was pissed off about the hire, but like i said earlier. We have been 5-11 4-12 5-11 last three years. It cant get worse, only get better. I am VERY excited about the additions of Turner and Horton. But with that being said I believe we will be drafting a OLB or DB with #6 pick.

That's what they should do. Not going to take a guard at 6. TE and WR aren't big enough needs to go that high, and I can't see them taking a QB there either.

So you go to D, and those are the top 2 needs. The 3-4 OLB also happens to be probably the strongest position in the draft this year.

I hope we go OLB/DE or CB. We need some edge rushers and another strong DB across from Haden, and there really isn't much on the offensive side of the ball in our areas of need.
