Well, honestly, it's not hard to find someone willing to just sell privately, much like one might do with a vehicle or house.

I'm pretty convinced that there is no way to eliminate the potential for something like this to happen. It's a tragedy that that may be the case, but sometimes reality is a bitter pill.

I am as convinced as ever that the solution to this is not legislation. It's a sound sense of community within a neighborhood. People who watch out for one another, pay attention to one another, and are involved in each other's lives to the degree that they care about each other's well-being would not only have likely noticed that this boy was disturbed, but they also could have indeed said something to his mother and/or notified authorities.

I'm sure that's not air-tight either, and I know some people won't care for it because it can't really be implemented by force (nor should it), but I honestly do think that the biggest issues our nation faces internally can best be solved with answers that are not legislated, but that are based in this kind of community mindset.

Was just talking to a friend that works at a gun shop. They have sold 135 ar15 since the shootings. He said its been insane at the calls and people coming in to the shop asking and wanting to buy guns in the last week. Most of them say for the safety of their families. Some want to buy them before they are banned.

Watch them only grandfather guns sold before the shooting. Probably wouldn't hold-up constitutionally, but that doesn't mean they won't try.
