Long story short, I have 2 revolvers in my possession that aren't registered to me and have no proof of ownership to me, no documentation, nothing. Therefore, I can't legally sell them, according to the gun shops I've spoken with. They aren't in any condition to sell anyways. So I figure I'd call the law enforcement to explain how I obtained possession, and have them come get them. In light of last week, I just don't want the (possibly) illegal guns in my home anymore. So, I call Massillon Police, Canton Police (screw you assholes, they wouldn't even let me ask them), Perry Police, and Stark County Sheriff's office. They all told me they couldn't do anything to get them. They don't just accept voluntary guns off the street. They all told me to contact local gun shops to sell them. Already did. I don't have any documentation on them. The gun shops don't want them. I don't want to just throw them away and chance someone stumbling across them and using them for something.
I even called the freakin' ATF. What did they say? Contact your local police, they will take them and dispose of them. No, they won't. It's just absolutely blowing my mind that it's so hard to legally get rid of some illegal revolvers. I'm trying to voluntary hand you over some handguns that hell, I don't know the past on them, they could be evidence in a murder or something, AND YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO AT LEAST CHECK THAT???? Rant over
Edit. Have since found out that it's not illegal for me to own them since I didn't buy them from a gun dealer. But still, why wouldn't law enforcement take guns off the street??? Smh.

It surprises me as well that the police wouldn't take them.

Agree. There is no requirement to register guns unless I think you live in specific cities that require it.GoChiefs;1345361 wrote:Edit. Have since found out that it's not illegal for me to own them since I didn't buy them from a gun dealer.

Police depts all over have events often where they give $50 & $100 gift cards to people who turn in unwanted guns. I think its a 'no questions asked' deal. You live in an area with dumbass cops answering the phone.

I actually knew about gun buy back programs, but there aren't any in this area that I've seen or heard about.Commander of Awesome;1345393 wrote:Move to LA:

Do the guns work? Why would you suddenly feel the urge to get rid of them because some maniac went nuts?

I'd actually forgot I had them. Bought them from a friend who needed money, under the understanding that he was going to buy them back in about a month when he had the cash. Collateral basically. That was about 3 years ago, and he never bought them back, and has since moved and we don't have contact anymore. They were just put in a lock box down in the basement and forgot about. Cleaned out the basement this weekend and came across them. I have my own guns. I have no use for these, know nothing about them, and just wanted them gone.WebFire;1345416 wrote:Do the guns work? Probably just hang on to them since I don't have to have any documentation on them.WebFire;1345447 wrote:So what did you do with them?

I dunno why shops around you are saying you need "documentation". The only documentation you ever get is from an original sale, and that is just a receipt. Go somewhere outside your city, they will most likely buy them. I've sold gun's to Vance's all the time, and all they do is run the serial # through the database of stolen guns. If you want, PM me and I can get them sold for you.GoChiefs;1345451 wrote:Probably just hang on to them since I don't have to have any documentation on them.
Honestly, calling shops and saying "Yeah I have these guns with no documentation, you wanna buy them?" is setting off red flags, probably why they tell you no thanks.

I wasn't even trying to sell them to them. I was just asking them if they knew what to do with them or if there was anything they could do with them. They were the ones that said they wouldn't want to buy them. Of course not, cause I didn't ask to sell them to you. Durr. I've only bought from dealers, so that's why I was under the impression you had to have paperwork. Since I know better, like I said, I'll probably just hang on to them.LJ;1345454 wrote:I dunno why shops around you are saying you need "documentation". Post isn't about getting rid of them, it's just that I can't believe law enforcement wouldn't take some guns that someone was willingly wanting to hand in and get off the streets.

Probably not, but if thats directed at me, I'm not afraid of guns by no means. I own others but have only bought from shops. Which is why I thought paperwork was necessary.
