I'm not pissed....I am more than elated. The neocrazies and their millions of dollars raised for "hate Hagel" ads by all accounts have been ineffective in changing America's course of world hegemony through the force of guns and robotic kamakazi machines, and are confirming that the new sheriff in town won't coddle to the AIPAC's of the world.believer;1379845 wrote:Spot on....
Footie's just pissed that his anti-neo con hero looked and sounded inept. Like I said, he'll be an excellent fit for Barry's Team of Ineptitudes.
The only thing I'm a little disappointed in was Hagel's composure and his political correctness in addressing these assholes. Hey Mccain, your surge resulted in over 1000 Americans dead...3000 maimed for life. and you...like always, don't see a problem with any of that. To think a scumbag like you won the GOP primary and then lost the general election to a "Marxist, socialist, Kenyan born, college class skipping, community organizer" says volumes about your worth in American politics.

Another great article on Hagel....potentially the first ever defense secretary to actually enlist in the armed forces....
"Hagel is far from a perfect player. He doesn’t have all the answers. He’s not even proposing bold responses to the current crisis, and not all that he suggests is wise or responsible. The senator’s simply a throwback to the old bipartisan consensus that said diplomacy and common sense ought to guide US foreign policy, as opposed to messianic ranting and kneejerk reaction. Bush and his neoconservative colleagues are so out of touch with global realities and traditional American values with regard to diplomacy that they don’t even understand where Hagel is coming from."

I know he will be confirmed. Democrats are not going to vote against the nominee of the president that is the leader of their party. Hagel could be found to have screwed 16yr old girls in the Dominican and it would not change their minds. There are also many republicans like myself, that unless their is some sort of gross incompetence the president won the election and deserves to staff the executive with whomever he sees fit.Footwedge;1380063 wrote:Hagel will be confirmed by over 70% of the Senators.

Welll...the powerful influence of AIPAC reaffirmed their strength and stranglehold they have on the Senate....imposing a fillibuster strategy to delay Sen Hagel's confirmation. How pathetic is that?
To Graham, McCain and the rest of the puppets to the lobby..grow up. You are Senators of the US...not of Israel.

Just political posturing. If Chuckles had not sucked it up during his confirmation hearing they would have no balls to mount this effort. Perhaps Chuckles could release some of the information concerning some of his work outside the Senate he would like to keep hidden.

I find it simply amazing that the Republican Senators wanted Hagel's financial documents for the last five years. Hell, their own nominee for President didn't even give two complete years. Having said that, it's obvious that the only intent of the R's dog and pony show was to embarrass Hagel for things he said when a Republican Senator and to rub Obama's face in shit. If the day ever comes that a Republican wins the Presidency this type of behavior will suddenly be criticized by his administration.

Let's discuss why they don't agree with Hagel's appointment, rather than just spew partisan talk. And why do you agree with his appointment, other than (Obama said so).

So are you saying it's OK for him to have "overseas" investment, and it wasn't OK for Romney to do such? Or are you saying that enough is enough and that subject should be ignored at this time?stlouiedipalma;1389574 wrote:I find it simply amazing that the Republican Senators wanted Hagel's financial documents for the last five years. I'm merely pointing out that they have a strange double standard. Their guy gets a pass on finances while Obama's gets grilled and filibustered. Of course, some of the Republican Senators are merely posturing for their bases back home. The fear of a tea party challenge (particularly for Lindsey Graham) makes them go all extreme.

Partisanship with regard to POTUS nominations is nothing new. The Democrats have made an art form of filibustering, delaying and blocking Republican POTUS nominations for a long, long time.
In recent history Bork and Thomas come to mind. Hell, the Dems used to have circle jerks giving "W" a hard time with just about any of his choices.
Yet now the media, Dems, and neo-con haters everywhere lament and boo hoo when the Repubs return the favor.

Sure, the democrats did it for judges who are appointed for life but not for President Bush's nominees. I mean, the Democrats never demanded, say, Iraq WMD intel over cabinet appointments (or something else totally unrelated) the way the Republicans are doing so over the much more benign event of Benghazi (in comparison to the Iraq War). The closest comparison was the Democrats threat to filibuster John Bolton if they didn't get more info about his time about Undersecretary of State but they never actually filibustered him (if memory serves) like Republicans officially are now with regard to Hagel (even though Voinovich cried over Bolton lol).believer;1389618 wrote:Partisanship with regard to POTUS nominations is nothing new. It is not equivalent. Whatever bad behavior Democrats are guilty of, during Obama's Presidency, Republicans have taken it to another level.

What a ridiculous excuse for bad behavior. By that logic, you should be demanding the release from prison of all murderers because Hitler existed.BoatShoes;1389626 wrote: It is not equivalent. The notion that either of the major parties has a significant advantage in ethical behavior is equally absurd. Give me a name from either party, I can give you a list from the other equally egregious.

No. You've got it backwards. We are capable of saying that a mass murderer is worse than a man who commits one murder without excusing the man who commits a singular murder. The democrats have never acted the way republicans are toward executive branch nominees. Federal Judges are apples to oranges because they're appointed for life and not just for the presidency.queencitybuckeye;1389696 wrote:What a ridiculous excuse for bad behavior. Tis entire issue has to do with the God awful warhawks that can't stomach the thought of a defense secretary that views international affairs openly, honestly and reasonably. We havan't had that in awhile have we?
Also....if it is "much adieu about nothing" as you and PTowne ascribe, why all the shananigans and bullshit? No...this is a pure case of the MOST POWERFUL LOBBY IN AMERICA pulling the strings of the gutless McCains and Grahams of the world, who think that Israeli taxpayers are paying their salary.
I know a lot about Chuck Hagel because years ago, I read the man's book. America: Our Next chapter:
Once he is confirmed, you watch how fast the military industrial complex scrambles.

Not surprised at all that you can't ascertain the difference.queencitybuckeye;1389742 wrote:Only apples and oranges if one is attempting to engage in "my side is better than your side" political blather. Shame on you. I've discussed ad nauseum the reasons why people are against the nominations. Can't you read? I would suggest you go back to my op and go from there. And for the record, this is really not partisan politics...at all. It has to do with a mindset....the mindset of global dominance through the forces of guns....power. Well guess what? Hagel doesn't believe in neoconservatism, nor the Project for New Century America. If you are ignorant on what that is, then google it and learn.
