Each country is different with it's own set of circumstances. What might work for England and suburban New England, doesn't work in rural Nebraska. If someone invades you home out there, the sheriff might be on the other side of the county. As O-trap alluded to...a person wants to feel safe in their own home, and that means being able to purchase a weapon that has enough firepower to deter the bad guys.

I never did hunt. Shot a chipmunk once with a BB gun when I was a 16....cried for the whole day.
I did skeet shoot for a time as a teenager, and as a teenager growing up in the suburbs...never once even fantazsized about going to school with a gun to shoot my classmates. Where do multiple middle class suburban teens get the idea of assault rifles and hand guns and blowing people away at random? Guns have been around along time. I don't ever remember massacres.

Focus on guns only, and you will NOT end the violence.

Someone could carry multiple pistols and open fire into a crowded theater. Can we please ban the ownership of more than one gun already?!
