Unless he counts himself dual citizenship with Kenya, he technically is not African American. He is an American that happens to be mulatto.isadore;1345567 wrote:mulatto but more on point, his mother was American, his father was African. He is our first African American President

I'm pretty anti-massive military and you guys are well aware of that. But this list is pretty silly, especially things like the golf one.

As the phrase "African-American" is commonly used in our vernacular, President Obama is an African-American. I don't understand why you guys get so upset that black people/mulatto people are by and large called "African-Americans". I can see why it gets annoying to have Isadore constantly say "He is our first African American President" but he is simply trolling so why fall for it? I can't see why it grinds your guys' gears so much that black people are largely identified in polite company as African-Americans.jmog;1345707 wrote:Unless he counts himself dual citizenship with Kenya, he technically is not African American. For all of you folks clamoring to cut defense by hundreds of billions, check out what North Korea is up to - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/24/world/asia/north-korean-rocket-had-military-purpose-seoul-says.html?_r=0
Maybe Barry needs to set up a visit to go bow to them so they won't hate us so much? Maybe we should withdraw from their lands because they hate us being there...oh wait...that only applies to the Middle East. My bad for mixing up the talking points.

We can't cut defense spending because then we'll be susceptible to an attack by North Korea......BGFalcons82;1350966 wrote:For all of you folks clamoring to cut defense by hundreds of billions, check out what North Korea is up to

I wonder if FDR was thinking similar thoughts in early December of 1941?2kool4skool;1351075 wrote:We can't cut defense spending because then we'll be susceptible to an attack by North Korea......
Speaking of Japan, I believe North Korea has their sights set more their way than ours. Certainly China has been giving them fits the past few years. I'll bet you couldn't possibly see two communist states getting together, right? Carry on and cut cut cut away.

No, even he realized that turning into a war economy would save us from the way he lengthen the depression with his socialist new deal policies.BGFalcons82;1351099 wrote:I wonder if FDR was thinking similar thoughts in early December of 1941?

Well the lack of congruence in this statement is staggering. You are aware that the deficit spending on the "war economy" for WWII that you say ended the depression followed the same economic principles as the "socialist new deal policies" that you say lengthened the depression?Sonofanump;1351198 wrote:No, even he realized that turning into a war economy would save us from the way he lengthen the depression with his socialist new deal policies.

The Japanese were far in away a more clear and present danger than the North Koreans. They invaded China in 1937 and raped and murdered their people while dead set on imperialism. The North Koreans can barely feed their people.BGFalcons82;1351099 wrote:I wonder if FDR was thinking similar thoughts in early December of 1941?
Another phantom menace. Defense cuts should be avoided if we must make a budget deal because of the extremely unlikely event of a North Korean invasion? We should be concerned about interest rates rising and hyperinflation despite persistent below target inflation and record low interest rates? We should cut social spending as the real menace...high unemployment persists for over half a decade leaving people without work through no fault of their own?

The simplest way to stop the North Koreans from getting and propagating their nuclear program would have been to let their people starve. Our government and that of South Korea and others ship food to North Korea in the hopes they would play nice. I know political instability and revolution in the North was feared. But now look what we got. In reality all of us subsidized their nuclear program.
I understand the South's sympathy for its kinfolk in the north who are trapped under an oppressive government. But now look what they have to deal with. Now the South is even more subservient to our protection as we hold their only nuclear deterrent. I am not one to subscribe to conspiracy theories but one has to wonder how our intelligence agencies did not pick up on the obvious game the North Koreans were playing. Ditto the South. Something is amiss.
