Greatest Game Ever Played

The athlete and song threads got me to thinking about other "greatest ever..." topics.

What was the greatest game (any sport) you ever saw or participated in?

In 1970 my old man took me to the 7th game of the NBA Finals in Madison SQ Garden - Knicks vs Lakers. Now this was before criminals and asswipes took over what is now the NGBA* and the NBA was still a valid professional league. Willis Reed wasn't supposed to play and everyone pretty much figured the Lakers would walk away with the Championship. But with only a couple minutes left in the pregame warm-up Willis Reed walked out of the tunnel and The Garden erupted. The Lakers actually stopped shooting at their end of the court and Wilt Chamberlain started laughing and shaking his head...he said later that they should have got back on the bus at that moment because the game was over. The Knicks blew the Lakers out that night 115 - 99. Walt Frazier jumped center and beat Wilt on the tip-off every time. I still get goose bumps thinking about how my old man loved that night.

*NGBA - National Gangbangers Association (not to be confused with what was once a league that actually played basketball)

You're such an idiot. NGBA? I mean honestly, do you listen to yourself?

^^^
Mo Clarett catching the guy from behind and stripping the ball is maybe the single greates play in CFB history. That one play completely changed the entire momentum of that game.

There may be better games in history but it was the best game I've ever watched.

Still can't believe Craig Krenzel was the leading rusher :)

As I said on the other thread America is about second chances...Clarett has an opportunity here to rebuild his image but granted one even little fck-up will be enough for people to say "Told ya so..."

48.3% of all NGBA* players have a rap sheet. This kettle feels pretty clean and shiny... ass pot.

My favorites:
1. Keith Smart over Syracuse for the NCAA Title
2. Colts Super Bowl
3. Indiana over UK behind Watfords 3

Others of significance:
Magic vs Bird in 1979
Villanova over Georgetown in the NCAA Final
Miracle on Ice

Probably one of the best I have ever watched in person was our HS football team in the playoffs against a bid mean ole private school. Our school was down by 21 points twice in that game, 28-7 and 42-21 only to win in triple OT 59-52. A close second would be the finals that year when they beat a nationally ranked team with 4-5 DI recruits, after being down by two touchdowns and using a few trick plays, 28-27 on a blocked EP with less than a minute to go win the title.

Best I played in.....probably a state finals game scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win.

Best steelers game I have attended......quite a few of them. Memorable is beating the ravens for the SB, but the most exciting may have been the big comeback against the browns in the playoffs. That is probably the most memorable one.

Honorable mention as they werent near and dear to my heart.....NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association). It was hosted by Celina Ohio for a few years. IN 2002 it was Bethel vs Faulkner in the finals. Bethel has to win twice. IN the first game they were down 7-8 runs going into the last two innings, and won. In the second game they were down by 4 runs in the last inning to beat Faulkner

Great guy...orthopedic surgeon with a law degree that owns a string of Audi dealerships and loves hockey. Black as they come though.

Ha, meant for the right to go to the SB. Had pretty good seats, 10 yard line, top row of the lower bowl so could stand the whole game. It was the family section of the players...sat by Matt Spaeth's family...and his hot GF and I think her sister. Right up the isle was the pisser and beer stand.

Wow I got hammered that night.

dislike both teams, especially Texas (fuck them), but this was a great game.

Honorable mention for me: watching Ole Miss/Arkansas go 7 overtimes in 2001
