D2 offers scholarships, so naturally they should get better players. But the mindset and coaching of Mount gives them a chance.
Lol I can tell you I had a ton of d-2 offers but I decided to go to mount union. I know a lot of players that did the same thing. Why would I want to go to Ashland or Findley and struggle to make the playoffs when I can go to mount union and play for a national title every year and be on espn. It was actually a really easy choice for me and obviously others as well.

not to mention that even d3 schools technically cant give schollys, they have their ways.Crimson streak;1342403 wrote:Lol I can tell you I had a ton of d-2 offers but I decided to go to mount union. Mount is the exception. But generally speaking there is more talent in D2. But to your point, D2 doesn't give full rides in football (handful on each roster do), so at times the costs can be similar.Pick6;1342395 wrote:Happens sometimes, but for the most part i think I disagree (at least when looking at mount )

What kind of offer? The thing is D2's can package grants and academic resources with athletic. So to answer your question, it comes down to money.Crimson streak;1342403 wrote:Lol I can tell you I had a ton of d-2 offers but I decided to go to mount union. Wow. I personally don't see them making the playoffs. I'd take Ashland, ODU, and any of Michigan schools for sure over them. I'd take Findlay also. I'd take Mount over any of the other D2 schools in Ohio.Crimson streak;1342338 wrote:This year I think they could go quarter finals/semis maybe but years past like 07 or 08 teams probably could have won d-2. Moving up in any division is really tough. Not only do you have issues with simply competing, there are certain guidelines which must be met, including facilities. Our local university here, Southern Illinois--Edwardsville (SIUE) just completed the move to Division I (no football program). It's been a tough road, but the financial rewards for NCAA postseason eligibility are why some schools do it. They had to spend a boatload of money simply upgrading the facilities for basketball, soccer, track and field and any other sport. Not to mention the butt-whomping they took when they had to play the likes of Missouri, Illinois and other D-I programs.

Yeah they don't do that at Ashland Community College.thedynasty1998;1342417 wrote:What kind of offer? The thing is D2's can package grants and academic resources with athletic. So to answer your question, it comes down to money.

Mount Union has sent guys to the NFL over the past couple of years. I think they'd be fine

So you equate a guy or two a year to the NFL to beating quality D2 programs? If Ashland who lost in the first round this year played Mount who hopefully wins the title this year, I'd take Ashland and give 24 points.jordo212000;1342735 wrote:Mount Union has sent guys to the NFL over the past couple of years. In a jv game my freshman year Ashland was playing second teamers against a bunch of freshman and we still beat them. I'm telling you the difference between mount union and d-2 schools is not a big difference. Hell coach kehres after that wanted to try and schedule a varsity game vs Ashland but they declined.

Too bad Ashland won't play them so that we could see...

I have never know Ashland to play anyone on scholly in JV games unless for a specific reason (switching positions).Crimson streak;1342743 wrote:In a jv game my freshman year Ashland was playing second teamers against a bunch of freshman and we still beat them. They didn't qualify for the playoffs this year. They finished their season at 7-3.gerb131;1342712 wrote:I'm going to tune in tonight. Who beat Wisc Whitewater, arent they the team that always beats Mt?

Looking at Mount Union's facilities, doesn't look like they're hurting financially. Competitively it definitely is a step up, after high school I was basically only contacted by D3 schools for golf, the average D2 school is much better. Let's put it this way, the top three teams overall was +19,+39, +40 while D2 was -13, -9, -8Sonofanump;1342303 wrote:It's not that easy, going to D2 is a huge jump, both financially and competitive wise.

Buildings and scholarship compliance are two different budgets. I'm sure Mount could do it if they really wanted to, but it is not overnight.Classyposter58;1343120 wrote:Looking at Mount Union's facilities, doesn't look like they're hurting financially

Shows the gap pretty well

Tiffin University has sent 2 players to the NFL as well and they are probably one of the worst college teams in Ohio while being D2. Nice fail lol.jordo212000;1342735 wrote:Mount Union has sent guys to the NFL over the past couple of years. I think they'd be fine
I'm with sunofanump I think mount would be lucky to make the playoffs if they were D2.

Mount would be the only D3 that could beat Tiffin. No way the second best (Witt) or third best (Hberg) would beat them. Those two schools might make a game with Walsh & Malone.Iliketurtles;1343138 wrote:Tiffin University has sent 2 players to the NFL as well and they are probably one of the worst college teams in Ohio while being D2. Oh they definitely did that game. The DB I was going against was talking shit the whole game about how he was on scholarship and I wasn't. But the funny thing is I had an offer from Ashland lol.

There's no doubt mount union can match up skill position wise. The o line is the big difference

I am surprised it too this long for the whole Mount vs. D2 argument to come up. Really, who cares?
