I figured I'd start a thread on what is quickly becoming the "PED" that's causing so many suspensions, including Joe Haden. My question: Should a mental PED be treated the same as a physical PED? I don't think so

No. Not sure I see the correlation of taking Adderall and it giving you and unfair advantage on the football field.

It's a controlled substance. Don't want to get in trouble? Get a script.

Mental PED? lol

Well it obviously enhances your mental ability to focus and concentrate. But it doesn't affect your physical ability at all.

He already said he was using it to party. But the guys on the NFL Network were talking about how it would be used during the week to get through film study without falling asleep and similar circumstances.

It's a slippery slope.

PED or not, it's still a controlled substance. If you turn a blind eye to adderall, then what next? Like many prescription drugs, it can be abused.

Adderall can also be used to mask steroids.

I forget who was talking about this on ESPN today (Brian Dawkins maybe) that a couple of the Seahawks DB's are facing a suspension for it. Apparently it helps keep them in the zone and creates a 'tunnel vision' for them to help their focus. Who knows. Most adults can't focus unless they drink coffee/caffeine first.

That's what Ross Tucker said on NFL Today podcast. He said players are taking it because it can mask steroids from detection or something. I don't know the science behind it, and a brief search didn't provide conclusive evidence.

Never said they couldn't. I've always gotten the impression that Adderall was primarily for students who had trouble paying attention or behaving. IMO, I don't think pro athletes should be messing around with it. But as someone else said, it's a slippery slope.

If it didn't give them some sort of advantage they wouldn't be doing it.

Where'd you learn that Rook? Drug school?

lol'd.

There are other stimulants, though. I can buy Bronkaid with Ephedrine right from the pharmacy. No prescription required.

"Ephedrine is similar in structure to the derivatives amphetamine and methamphetamine."

And psuedo (the knockoff used in nasal decongestants) is what is used to make meth.

There is a guy in my office who told me he took adderall before his state soccer semifinal match. He said it def enhanced his performance. I called him out for cheating.

Dug a little deeper into this, what I learned is that NFL just releases that the player is suspended for 4 games, its then the player that says Adderall. NFL doesn't confirm. Adderall shows up as the same type of substance so players can be roiding then say its just adderall.

Hmm interesting. I don't know anything about steroids or their chemical makeup, does that mean they're amphetamines too?
