Hell of an assumption you all are making.
Man, must have known the NCAA still wouldn't have dinged OSU.

I'm sorry, are you making the assumption that Gene Smith not doing the bowl ban and spouting off about how OSU didn't deserve more sanctions made a good impression on the NCAA? I actually think you might be Gene Smith, that would be the only person that would actually defend his handling of the Tressel situation. Anyone with a brain would not be showing him any support. Come on man.

Also, I would like to throw my opinion out there that fans cheering Tressel was pathetic to me. Him, Gene Smith, Posey, Pryor, and Herron are why we aren't playing in a major bowl this year. I think we should distance ourselves as much as possible from those guys.

I agree that Gene Smith screwed up.

I completely disagree about Tressel. The man was great for the University and did great things for the student-athletes. He made a mistake, he paid the price. No reason not to celebrate the good.

Thread is a bit premature, IMO. Even if we were eligible, we would need ND to lose and us to win the B1G championship game to be in the title game. We would be #3 in the BCS right now. You would have to assume that if Georgia upsets Bama, they would jump us. Since we would only be playing Nebraska.

Also, trep: Jordan Hall, Travis Howard, and Pittsburgh Brown. All of those guys are still on the team and were part of the reason for our sanctions.

I don't think those three guys were involved with the bowl ban stuff, though I could be wrong. I found this ESPN article about it sounds like theirs was an isolated event that they were suspended for and got to come back:

http://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2011-09-13/three-ohio-state-players-reinstated

And I agree with you I don't think we were playing for a national title this year. But, being in the running for a national title and playing in a major bowl game looks way way way better than a 6-7 season with a gator bowl loss.

False. If we were eligible we would be #2 in the AP. They would not have an undefeated team below a 1 loss team if they werent trying to stop us from getting a "mythical" national championship.

Being eligible/ineligible has nothing to do with being ranked in the AP(except maybe some voter bias). We are currently ranked 4th in the AP. It was said during the broadcast today that IF OSU were eligible, they would be ranked #3 in the BCS. Its a very safe assumption that the winner of the SEC title game would be in the national championship and ND if they go undefeated.

The computers would likely be a huge problem for the BUckeyes in a BCS equation if they were eligible. #3 sounds about right.

All this will be forgotten next season. Gene Smith has been an amazing AD and like those mentioned above no one would have been able to anticipate what the NCAA brought down.

Go Bucks!!

I am placing all blame on Geno for this one.

It was obvious early on that we were not going anywhere last year. I know some will say there was no guarantee we wouldn't get a bowl ban this year as well, but I don't think that would have happened.

Take the bowl ban and then move on. He and Gee were so arrogant that they thought we would skate.

Gene Smith's dad, is that you? The words "Gene Smith" and "amazing AD" should not be used together in the same sentence.

The opposite IS known for a fact, yet people who should know better (TV and radio talkers) don't seem to know it or acknowledge it. Ohio State was not going to a bowl game this year, period.

Again, false.

We would only be ranked 3rd because of where we are ranked in the Human Poll.

We would be ranked #2 in the human poll if we were eligible because the week that Alabama and Oregon lost we would have jumped them had certain writers not voted us 10+ (which is true, you can check it).

So we would then be ranked 2nd in the BCS and going to the championship

Should have been able to anticipate that Fickell was in over his head and that we were really thin on talent. No Buckeye fan cares about playing in the Gator Bowl or any other mid to low tier bowl.

He shouldn't have been so arrogant and should have taken the bowl ban.

Agreed. I think it would have been OSU vs ND in the Championship which would be eleventy billion times better than Bama Florida

OSU, being undefeated and winning the B1G, would be in the Title Game. ESPECIALLY being the only other undefeated team(with an ND win tonight).

Agreed. No way they keep a team from a Big 5 conference out if they were one of 2 undefeated.

And if they did, there would be riots.

Oh agreed

Just saying our computer ranking would be lower than teams underneath of us. The schedule would have hurt us
