Yeah it would definitely come down to how strong the sec bias is in the coaches poll

Also, I would like to throw my opinion out there that fans cheering Tressel was pathetic to me. Him, Gene Smith, Posey, Pryor, and Herron are why we aren't playing in a major bowl this year. I think we should distance ourselves as much as possible from those guys.
Blah. The reason we aren't playing in a Bowl game this year is that the NCAA is a POS. The word is out...cooperate with them, and you'll get hammered. Stonewall them and they can't/won't do a damn thing. If Gene Smith should be fired it should because he gave them the ammunition they needed to lay down the smack. The NCAA is not a benevolent institution looking out for the best interests of athletes, and hasn't been for a long time. It is inconsistent and arbitrary with it's punishments, and the smell of money and greed is all over it.

If they were eligible they may, and probably would, be ranked higher in the AP, but it's one of those "if my Aunt had balls, she'd be my Uncle" arguments. There's nothing you can do about it now.Pick6;1327992 wrote:Being eligible/ineligible has nothing to do with being ranked in the AP(except maybe some voter bias). We are currently ranked 4th in the AP. It was said during the broadcast today that IF OSU were eligible, they would be ranked #3 in the BCS. Its a very safe assumption that the winner of the SEC title game would be in the national championship and ND if they go undefeated.

Here is why Gene Smith schould be fired: he was widely reguarded as the odds-on favorite to be the next president of the NCAA and handled this situation about as porrly as it could have been handled. That's reason enough to me.

And if they did, there would be riots.

Sagarin has osu in his computer rankings. They are 10th in rankings the BCS uses and 24th in his "predictor" rankings which he still says is his most accurate ranking (includes MOV). Not sure if all of the final computer rankings are made public or if osu is included, but if they were ranked around 10th, it would be very likely osu would be left out.

Michigan at 22
Nebraska at 20
Oh wait, OSU beat both of those team... seems extremely accurate.
Other "interesting" teams ahead of OSU in that "most accurate ranking":
7-5 Arizona State
7-5 USC
7-4 Oklahoma State
6-5 Baylor

Gene Smith is not the one who intentionally lied to NCAA investigators. He deserves to stay.

Smith should have been shown the door well before he even had the opportunity to self impose a bowl ban.
