Kind of hard to blame them on this, though. Would you want to have your name attached to that mess? This country is going to have some form of nationalized healthcare, so I can understand why SCOTUS might not want to try to put the horse back in the barn. That's not their job, but it's also not their job to turn hotly debated legislation on its ear because of technicalities.

You rule it unconstitutional, what's going to happen to the insurance market and healthcare? Would you want to be responsible for that chaos when it wasn't really necessary?

The wheels are going to start coming off this in 2016. That's when the employer mandate kicks-in and the states "inherit" 10% of the cost of subsidies. And then Congress and the POTUS are going to have to act to fix it.

Hopefully, the court would rule that the couple's rights end where the pastor's begins, at the church door.

Someone will bitch and moan, and someone may join a Church specifically to make an issue out of it....but it shouldn't be an issue. Churches aren't going to be required to perform same-sex marriages. Your certificate from the county clerk will be just as valid.

That can NEVER happen now. It is government that has just completely and totally interjected itself by this ruling. States's right and the notion of elected representation has just been eradicated. I think you need to read all 4 of the opinions written by each dissenter.

It's a simple 14th amendment case, having nothing at all to do with states's (sic) rights. The members of the court who aren't blithering idiots understood the concept.

It's a 14th Amendment case, but hardly simple. If it was, Kennedy's opinion would have been about 2 paragraphs long.

That said, having read Roberts' legally incoherant majority decision on King v. Burwell, I have no issue labeling him as a "blithering idiot."

Admittedly, I don't have much knowledge of politics and only started paying attention the last couple years. So forgive me if this is a noob question, but doesn't it seem Republicans are incredibly out of touch with gay marriage? Huckabee, Cruz, and Jindal have all went on record that they'd support their states defying the SCOTUS and continuing to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. 6/10 Americans and a higher percentage of young Americans support gay marriage, yet these presidential hopefuls are playing the sore loser card. I don't get it. I know they have their own following/party they have to appease.

Honest question. Where did you get the 6/10 number?
80% of Tennesseans voted to ban gay marriage just last year. I know Tennessee doesn't represent everyone, but it's hard to imagine they are that far off from the rest of the country.

Now the marxist is proposing to raise the overtime exempt wage limit from $23,660 to over $50,000 (including managers). The guy is absolutely crushing this country with disastrous regulations. 93 million Americans are out of work and he says, 'hey let's try for 100 million'.

It is hard to believe the carnage he has wrought in just 6 years. It is irreversible.
