I don't think it is all doom and gloom for the GOP. This is a big if, but the republicans need to suck up their pride and realize their approach isn't the way to go anymore. Republicans, and more to the point conservatives, are called out of touch with today's society because they are. They view the US Constitution as the supreme law of the land. They think borders are important. They think fiscal responsibility is of dire importance. They think there is a distinction between people and the institution of the state.

I completely disagree with this. If the minority vote doe not want to ear or associate with the church/religion piece of the party then they simply should not vote for such a party candidate.

Romney lost for multiple reasons. Reason one is that there are a ton on unintelligent voters. Reason two is that the media doesn't report facts. What happened in Benghazi, why are people still waiting for help in NY/NJ? Katrina was raped by the media. Reason 3 is that democrats care more about dumbass social issues instead of jobs/economy. Finally, they made Obama out to be a god (note murals painted of him places already) instead of a politician who has constituents to answer to.

If they alienate the conservative right, then where do they gain that margin and then some?

Focus on flipping the Latino %. By most accounts, many core/conservative values appeal to them. But Repubs have stepped in it on immigration, which is one of the few justifiable and understandable single voting issue IMO. Not that the Dems are all that better or different in that regard, but they've had better marketing.

The problem as I see it is the liberal media has painted the Repubs with a board brush, and the Repubs have been ineffective in combatting it. They need a new marketing strategy.

At the end of the day, 8-10 years ago Dems were lamenting the same issues Repubs are today. GWB changed that. Obama is liable to have a similar impact. But the larger problem remains America doesn't know how to operate a socialist state (no one really does). Repub or Dem, we have to find some people with real solutions.

A few points to make.

There are women out there who base their vote solely on abortion. There are also homosexual men and women who base their vote entirely on gay marriage. I know this because I worked at a restaurant while I was in college with people who did exactly that. Everyone wants to pick a side so they choose issues that are close to them and they understand, not always the most important issue. For many younger people they have no grasp on how the economy will affect them. Since they don't understand those issues they identify with the social issues. Democrats will always win the social issues because almost anyone who isn't a church going right winger agrees with them including a large percentage of republicans.

Globalization is here to stay whether you like it or not. My girlfriend works in corporate retail as a buyer. She has worker for Payless Shoes, Express, The Limited, and is now helping create the brand elloqui. The price of materials have risen worldwide. When she left Payless their prices had reached a point where a tennis shoe there cost almost the same as a low end Nike tennis shoe. If they had to produce a shoe in America using minimum wage workers you wouldn't be able to produce a shoe for less the. $120. Clothing is the same way. The margins retailers are making on clothes has dramatically decreased in recent years. For companies to maintain their advantages they have to go overseas. For America to create manufacturing jobs it's going to take new technologies and innovation. Even services are being outsourced these days. There are hospitals who can't afford to have a full staff on at night so they have an x-ray tech take images and email them to a Dr in India for diagnosis. The jobs are gone and their not coming back.

^^^100% spot-on. Particularly insightful about young voters going with social issues because they don't understand the economy and how it affects them. I've joked before, but there's actually some research supporting it, that the voter "lifecycle" is young and Dem, make a few bucks and have a family you vote Repub, then in retirement relying on SS & Medicare you vote Dem again. Basically when you are a taker you vote Dem, and when you are a giver you switch to Repub.

It's not that being a social conservative is a bad thing. It is preaching small government and then trying to preach to people how they should live their life and telling them what they can and cannot do. It comes across to many voters as hypocritical to say that you want the government out of your pocketbook but don't mind them in your house watching everything you do.

The GOP party is basically baby boomers and seniors at this point in time. They are going to have to find a way to better communicate their ideas to minorities, women and the youth vote.

I think their is still a lot of the population who would be for fiscal conservatism but when you start telling and demeaning people on how they live or for what they do. You push them away.

My guess is you know me well enough to agree with you that they (conservatives) should not, and most likely will not, change. I've come to grips with my "out-of-dateness. AND I'M A YOUNG PUP!!! And I doubt I change given the depth of my conviction.

The hypocrites on the left want government involved in all aspects of your life, from your wallet, to your schooling, to your healthcare, to your retirement, to taking your fair share for the entitled, to the size of the soda you drink, but when it comes to the sanctity of life, hel! no, government has no role in protecting the life of the unborn. I am a pro life person however since there is no definition or science behind when life begins, I don't know how the government gets involved. If you are a life at conception person that is fine but if that became law, you would have to charge women for murder and that would be near impossible since you have no proof for when life begins.

It's not a minority vote. I know a few people despite having strong fiscal republican views, refuse to vote for the republicans due to their bible thumping label. Now i think its stupid thats their reasoning not to vote GOP, but it doesnt matter. What matters is people dont vote GOP because of it, despite agreeing with GOP views on key issues. It's simply not helpful to be open about your strong religious views. Just taper it down a bit.

They view the Constution as the supreme law of the land, but never admit that large parts of it are flawed. It has been amended 27 times, you know.

They think borders are important, and they are, but shouldn't be so wall-like that folks that want to benefit themselves and our country would be kept out.

I have to agree with a lot of this post. Unfortunately it comes across as hypocritical. It is an inconvenience that the GOP wants to stop peoples right for an abortion. Also it wants to limit liquor sales on Sunday etc etc etc.... The GOP inconveniences me terribly with their religious nonsense.
