Just because I can't give you an exact answer right now doesn't mean the market can't figure it out effectively. I'm just one fucking guy.

I'm not trying to be a dick, and not looking for the "right answer." I'm just curious how our society could combat those things. Contrary to my normal posting habits, I'm actually trying to have a discussion. lol

It's a funny meme. But it just dodges the question in an attempt to make people feel like assholes.

Indeed, which is what this thread is for. :)

Start a "who will build the roads?" thread and I'm sure we can have a good discussion.

Depending on how deeply you want to get into it, the references cited are worthwhile. Rothbard is a good read in general.

An old co-worker posted this on facebook a few weeks ago. First comment: "muh roads!"

The actual comment: "I'm guessing it's because we drive on the roads that are paid for by our tax dollars."

The "muh roads" argument is also dumb, because if you actually take a look at most roads that don't have toll booths, they are a complete pile of shit. Here in DC, there are 3+ feet deep pot holes and the government waits until may or june to fill them up every year if we are lucky. If you want to make the "muh roads" argument for taxes, then you better not be crying every time the government looks to cut something, because they sure as hell aren't using that many for "muh roads." Anyway, back to memes!

Prior to government oversight, there were roads.

Frankly, one might justify the cost of a road if they're able to then sell ad space along it and profit from the road that way (and that was just a spitball idea).

Moreover, IF there's a market for four roads right next to one another, that would mean that enough people are using that path to justify it. Otherwise, only an idiot would build such a road (or someone apathetic about losing money).

Already heard a few. In Libertarian FB groups, that train is NEVER late.

An informative history would be to look at the old street car lines. A sort natural private monopoly arises until the public elects socialists to counter it. See Cleveland Mayor Tom Johnson who campaigned on municipalization of the street car and lower fares.
