Why are Human Resources departments so worthless? I have yet to encounter one that wasn't a pain in the ass to deal with.

I interviewed for a position last week, and the HR lady emailed and asked for references which I then (almost immediately) attached a PDF and sent back to her. I waited 4 days and heard nothing, so I broke down and called her to see if she had received the PDF and I got her voicemail... to which she never replied back.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me, nearly the same exact thing happened six months ago.

so I ask you, why is HR so damn worthless?

Hope this helps, etc.

All my HR lady does is complain about how she's working like a dog (comes in after me, leaves same time or earlier).

If they didn't want me I doubt they would have asked for references.

I would consider myself "close" with my prior co-workers/bosses...I don't think they'd do that to me. I could be wrong, though.

Keyword: "Lady"

Of the 30 or so women in my office, only 1 stays past 5 on a regular basis. I can't remember the last time a male left before 5pm.

Agreed. We have yet to have an HR person who doesn't complain about how hard they work and they show up later and leave earlier.

This is mostly likely the case, but a courtesy email would have been the professional thing to do especially after getting his hopes up when they asked for his references.

HR is up there with teaching as one of the biggest jokes of a profession. Always find it funny the people with the easiest jobs bitch the most too.

Hate agreeing with sleeper but have to in this case. In all my years of employment i have ran across very few women who put in the extra time and hours that their male counterparts do. They just always have some sort of reason/explanation as to why they cannot put in the extra hours. Most of the times yes, it is "family" reasons why they have to leave at the normal end time, and that is fine. Family is family and you should be commended for it, but then again dont come back demanding all this equality when you fail to put in the time and effort of men

did you list your HS cross country coach as one of your references?

The particular position I interviewed for was a state position, and I know those typically have a lot of red tape that needs to be worked through. Nervous to call her again.

Government HR is even worse. Expect to hear from them in 4 months. I would keep searching for something else.

Like my office. For the full-time women here, I think they feel 4:50 is the new 5 p.m.

Ya know what I wonder...do women realize they keep re using the same excuses as to why they are leaving a little bit early? Hell..I would just rather them say "I am leaving early" and leave instead of then giving a 5 min explanation as to WHY they are leaving early. PLus it usually is one of just a few excuses and I dont think they really know how often they use the same lame excuses!

They do always seem to be the ones who partied their way through college.

Good point. I remember a teaching major friend of mine had to do a project where basically he handed out coloring sheets. Then tried to brag to me about his 3.2 GPA. GTFO

I just had the best experience with an HR manager (guy).

I applied for the job Oct. 3rd. He called me October 10th to set up an interview, he wanted me to come in the next day, but I was unable come in until the following Monday (15th). A couple days later he called me and wanted me to talk to the director of the department, and she talked to me for maybe 10 minutes and said she would be talking it over with her team and that they would get back to me in a few days. Thirty minutes later I got a call saying they have a job offer for me, and I went to take my pre-employment BS and just got the confirmation of my start date today. The easiest job process I've been through and the HR guy did an excellent job contacting me to keep me updated.

And they always "aren't feeling well". Christ, I don't feel well either because I'm stressed to hell doing your job for you but you don't see me bitching.

LOL same, had a friend who was designing PE obstacle courses for a class. Excuse me while I LMAO. The girl EDU majors are the worst too. Always bitching about how stressed they were. Oh boo hoo, I have to write a 10 page research paper. OH NOEZ! Case in point, ETB asked us to write his 8-12 page paper LMAO. Meanwhile business students were pulling all nighters in the library to study for their finance/econ tests. Never once hearf them bitch.

The bitching hasn't ended at the college level either. Still see the same EDU QQers bitching about finishing their students' progress reports. LOLFAIL. Case in point again, ETB whines the most out of all the posters here.
