Why the godaddy hate? I just checked Namecheap, and the domain I am looking at is more expensive on there than godaddy.

I have some connections in an area that is a hotbed for high school football that I would like to utilize.

I've had domains repossessed without explanation (and literally "purchased" by them to seemingly take it off the market). They seem to have technical issues more often. Their account panel is not the most user friendly, so it might be particularly confusing if you haven't done something like this before.

All in all, they're just not a great service to deal with.

Plus, NameCheap offers privacy protection for free for the first year, which I like.

I purchased my domains through GoDaddy and manage them through BlueHost. It's worked out beautifully for me.

And as WebFire alluded to, what the site will be used for plays a huge part in where/how you host your site. Blog w/ articles? Find somewhere with free WordPress installation. Content management with forms, etc? Find somewhere with free Drupal or something similar. Database-drive? Find some place with free, customizable MySQL (or other platform) DB. Selling products? Find somewhere that provides easily-integrated shopping carts.

I also didn't fold like a lawn chair. I argued over the phone with their dumbass lawyer and contacted a local lawyer as well as took advice from a close friend that is a lawyer. I took their advice.

Pretty easy for you to talk tough when it's not your money in jeopardy.

It may have not been my money but it was my dream. :)

I used webs.com for our wrestling site.

Granted, as hasbeen will attest, it's a crappy website; about as crappy as our coaching. But I like it. Get's the job done.
