I remember almost shitting my trunks the first time I jumped off the high dive as a kid.xKoToVxSyNdRoMe;1295441 wrote:Remember when you were little and it was an adrenaline rush jumping down the last three stairs? Or felt like a badass when you jumped off the swing while it was moving? That had to be an incredible rush as he stepped off the pod.

None taken. They said the landing could hurt in the capsule. I was blown away that he landed on his feet and had his wits after the rush and tumbling. He really pulled himself together. They didn't ask him what moment during the jump he knew he was going to land safely.gut;1295528 wrote:Haha, I meant the "duh" for me. It's impressive and cool and all....But am I the only one skeptical of "5 years of training"? Sure, I can see he has to get over his claustrophobia and maybe some "oh shit" procedures, but at the end of the day you jump and then pull a cord. Seems like it's more about the ballon and the pod. Guy almost rode a fucking hot air ballloon into space - now THAT'S impressive.
I'm just having trouble understanding the incremental risk between a practice jump at 90-100k feet and this @ 130k. Was the practice jump only up to the stratospheric ceiling or something?

I think the project was halted a couple years for lawsuits to run the course. And Felix being claustrophobic and working through it. They had a practice jump or two and always had to wait until weather conditions were perfect.

Anyone know what really drives Red Bull to do this stuff? I'm just not sure how effective this is as far as ROI on their advertising. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not 0, but they spend a lot of money on sponsorships that really have nothing to do with their product.
Is it just a private company and this is a pet interest of the majority owner? Yeah, I could look it up but I'm lazy.

They were a nice product before they came to the US. They actually existed 10 years before coming to the US.gut;1297702 wrote:Anyone know what really drives Red Bull to do this stuff? The people that "fueled" the Red Bull business were the risky people, the thrill seekers, the X Gamers. So, they continue to make an impact in that "daredevil" market. They got into a niche that no one else really had before.
