If he wants a revenue neutral tax reform taxes must rise on middle income americans due to fewer tax expenditures.gut;1286771 wrote:Again, saying Romney is going to raise taxes on the middle class is a lie. End of debate. Maybe that's why I talk down to you, because you either don't understand the issues or you lack integrity in your arguments.
Or he doesn't eliminate these tax expenditures and the deficit gets worse.
Pick your poison then.
Or, he walks back his commitment to a 20% rate cut...which would be a responsible thing to do but he has supported a 20% rate cut for his whole campaign. This is undoubtedly the best result.

That's funny, because Rush made a point a while back that the media more than anything loves drama, and they need the race to tighten up. But it was a slaughter.sleeper;1286777 wrote:I don't like Mitt Romney but man did he own this debate tonight. Even CNN is slobbering his knob right now.
I'd expect Ryan to similarly carve-up Biden next week.

lol at the issues weren't touched on. Anyone honestly think that the majority of people care about the issues? The majority of Americans couldn't tell you the first thing about the stuff you all listed, it's all a popularity contest. It's American Idol on the big stage, whoever looks the coolest and promises the most free stuff wins, crack head citizen doesn't care about Medicaid or the budget or SS.

Explodes the deficit? Another lie passed off as fact. Obama spending 25% more than the Romney/Ryan plan will explode the deficit. Obama is a PROVEN deficit exploder.BoatShoes;1286778 wrote:Or he explodes the deficit. Pick your poison then.

So what if he walks back his 20%? You're acting like a 15-17% rate is a material difference. At least now you acknowledge that "raising taxes on the middle class" is neither fact nor foregone conclusion. But I'm surprised you're not attacking Obama's budget because it's inherently obvious the middle class tax payer is more likely to take a hit in that scenario.

Everytime Obama says something about the national debt, how doesn't Romney just simply said "Bro, you doubled the deficit" - PWND - You just can't say anything about a deficit you've doubled. Period.
Obama "You gonna raise deficit"
Romney "You literally doubled it"
Obama "Yeah, but you gonna potentially raise it mofo"
Romeny "Point taken"

Well the Kerry - Bush debate moved the needle quite a bit and Obama got whooped pretty good.gut;1286774 wrote:I don't know. Will be interesting. Some say debates don't move the needle much. And when partisan voters get most of their impression from their favored news stations the needle will, understandably, not move.

Saw a stat somewhere that 96% of likely voters would watch the debate. That seems extraordinarily high to me (unless they count a few minutes or clips on CNN as "watching").ts1227;1286775 wrote:Yeah. I mean think about this site. These debates will not change the mind of a single person. Depends on how many true undecideds there were.

Hopefully. I think historically it doesn't move the needle much, but maybe most debates aren't so one-sided.BoatShoes;1286787 wrote:Well the Kerry - Bush debate moved the needle quite a bit and Obama got whooped pretty good.

no way 96% of likely voters watched the debate, that'd be huge ratings. Doubt more people watched the debate than MNF.

But fear not....Romney made a lot of statements of fact and threw out lots of stats - by morning the spin doctors and "fact" checkers will have a very different narrative.

they do when they are bused their and told who to vote for, these are the people that will win the election for Obama. These debates aren't going to swing anyone who has even a passing interest in politics to the other side.ccrunner609;1286800 wrote:the majority of the people that you are talking about dont vote.

I thought Romney pretty much won the debate on style points. He had some nice facts and figures to refute the President, but offered precious few specifics on his big ticket items, as has become the norm. He goes on and on about closing loopholes in the tax code, but won't offer one single specific about which loophole he will eliminate. It's also pretty obvious that he won't name one single program or government department he will cut, only offering that vague "not worth borrowing from China" line from the campaign. He also kinda threw the tea party under the bus, as he never once mentioned anything they support strongly. It was obvious that the etch-a-sketch was in full operation tonight as Mitt went straight down the center on this one.
He may pick up a few points from this, but he still needs to give the American voters a reason to vote for him other than "I'm not Obama". He might show some movement nationally, but I highly doubt the battleground states will get much tighter after tonight.
